The Teatro Colon will close soon for major renovations. It may be a long time before it reopens.

The current renovation plan has been in the planning for over a decade, and promises to bring this grand theater back to its original splendor.  The wait will be well worth it. Once its reopened, dont miss the guided tour inside the "city" below the city.... the theater is HUGE and some of the workshops below ground are the size of a medium aircraft hangar.  Very impressive.

Last season the Colon charged non rersidents double the regular price for tickets.  I don't know if they are continuing this corrupt practice.  Performances continue at the Coliseo and other theatres.

Seems  no one looks at the Links page much anymore -- Teatro Colon - check out their webpage for Argentine Performers.  They offer about twice per month free concerts on Sunday mornings at 11am -- only a few instruments but at least one hour performance. The tickets are free but you have to wait in line on Friday morning starting at 10am for distribution of them.  You can tickets  right up until the time of the performance but the best tickets are given out first on Friday so you can seat at the Platea level - that is the Orchestra. Check it out - I am certain you will have a great time there.  Just being inside this beautiful theater is a treat in itself.
