Has Buenos Aires declined since 2019?

I've noticed the same phenomenon with places I traveled to both pre and post Covid. I think the lockdowns and authoritarianism had a significant impact on people around the world (one could argue this was the intent). Coincidentally, I left BA a couple of weeks before the lockdowns began there...

Javier Milei Ended a DC-Sized Deficit in...Nine Weeks

When you look at the IMF's behavior with borrower countries around the world, one can easily make the argument that both the failure and indebtedness are intentional, not just in Argentina.

Javier Milei Ended a DC-Sized Deficit in...Nine Weeks

Yes! Impoverishing people to get a pat on the head from the IMF (and access to more debt) is nothing to be praised for or to be proud of.

Is Argentina Still a Good Deal?

One of the big attractions of Argentina is (or was) the ability to arbitrage the USD against the peso to get more 'bang for your buck.' I'd be very cautious of assuming that a country's weak currency or comparable low cost of living will always remain that way, not just in Argentina, especially...

Surcharge for using a foreign card at a restaurant

I always try to use cash as much as possible. However, when I have used my Wise debit card I have never had a surcharge, in Argentina or any other country.

Entradasba - buying tickets for theatres

Yes, tickets are emailed, which you can store in your phone and have scanned when you arrive at the event. It is super convenient.

Is the Milei "Transformation" Failing Already?

From what I've observed over the years, the IMF approving of something is a red flag for the people of a country, not just in Argentina.

    English-speaking dentists & ferry schedule/prices to Uruguay

For an English speaking dentist, Dr. Luis Pereira is another good option. He did a basic exam and cleaning for me last time I was in town. Esmerelda 339, Piso 3, #2 WhatsApp +54 911 3485 2030

Comparsion of supermarket prices Montevideo vs BA

Most recently, the middle of last year, I spent a few months in Montevideo, in Buenos Aires, and also spend time in Cuenca, Ecuador. I think it’s a little unfair to cherry pick and compare the low price of a certain thing in one country to the higher price of the same thing in another country...

Your Post Appears on Michael Koh 's ExpatsBA.com? File a DMCA.

I can't imagine why he thinks this will help his real estate business, assuming that's his goal. At least on the BuySellBA site the news sources are attributed, though I wonder if those publications know their stories are being republished.

Any leads on BA restaurants with spicy food?

Check out Nola for Cajun (Gorriti 4389). Went there several times during my last visit. Food isn't especially spicy but they have a good variety of sauces to add an extra kick.

US debt and recession + Social Security + CBDCs – any thoughts?

Wondering if anyone has thoughts on any or all of these topics, either individually or together, or similar themes? It appears that a major recession in the US is in the cards for Q1 2024, given the recent Treasury auctions and comments from numerous financial professionals. The amount of US...

Anyone else "crazy" enough to live in La Boca?

Excellent post and observations. I've always had the feeling that La Boca is going to become an up-and-coming area over the next few years, similar to Chacarita.

Don Julio...best Steakhouse in the world?

Totally agree. There are so many good neighborhood places with arguably better quality, service, and prices. Unless you're looking for an Instagrammable moment or want to say you've been there, there's no reason to go to these "best" places that end up leaving a lot to be desired.
