    Immigration changes: Health, Education, Deportation

I had a 2-year absence during COVID and a few one-year absences mixed in the 10 years I've had permanent residency. I wonder if there is real enforcement, will they just refuse to renew the DNI, make you enter as a tourist, or will it turn out like the USA is at the moment, where they pull you...

    Buying Real Estate in Argentina

Exactly. Still a low rent. To go back in time of I would have bought but that is hindsight.

    Buying Real Estate in Argentina

These two properties in my town are listed at almost $200k. I'm sure a deal can be made for less but a few years ago it would have been under a $100k list price for comparison. It probably isnt all that different from a major city price. Rents are always so low compared to the purchase prices...

    Life in Provinces Recommendations

An area within the Sierras de Córdoba might be a good option. Mountain scenery, mild climate, and central location in Argentina

    Purchasing a car

It is rare only for budget vehicles or some base vehicle trims. Most of the higher trim levels of the budget vehicles have an optional automatic and many of the mid-range suv's and cars won't even have a manual option anymore. I don't think you can get a Rav4 or Corolla in manual anymore...

How many of us are still here?

Some of the farmland has held a stable usd price. It's been hovering around $10k per hectare for the last 15 years I been here. It has gone up but nothing more than keeping pace with usd inflation. Years ago I thought it was so crazy and out of reach because everything else was so cheap in...

    Need US phone number

I have AT&T unlimited through my US phone and use it for calling, texts, high-speed data, and mobile hotspot. It covers nearly all of Latin America. They changed the fine print to mention international use shouldn't exceed domestic, but I never had a problem.

How's everyone hanging in there with the cost of living these days?

I was looking at the numbers and it seems like there would be about a 10-year breakeven if you would ever return the the USA and opt back in with the 10% penalty per year. So if you are gone 1 year or 20 years it would still take an extra 10 years of the extra penalty payments to be negative...

I went and built a house...

On new a construction I would go with the traditional ductwork if you aren't pressed for overall space. I like the cleaner walls, vents in every room, the ability to use a gas furnace, and the filtering/circulating of air benefits. If it is a retrofit I vote mini splits as well.

US tax implications US Expat marries an Argentine

TurboTax has a nice write-up on the steps. You can follow them even if not using their software...

    Invest funds for Argentine citizens

It exists the same but I haven't come across any with a fee structure that would rival a US discount broker. Plus the yearly wealth tax can wipe out any gains. I would worry about potential gains in pesos. Imagine a stock, bond, or fund, losing half its value in dollars then when...

    Western Union money transfer

I don't think they need to balance anything. Just use the CCL with a profit spread. So it doesn't matter inflows or outflows. They can just buy or sell as needed since they have a small profit built in that more than covers the temporary rate drops or increases.

On Argentina’s Pampas, Farmers Are All In on Libertarian Milei

Oh interesting but 75% at oficial and only 25% at CCL still seems pretty bad. They would be losing half on the exchange rate plus the tax. I think there must be some benefit they aren't talking about. Like being able to buy equipment or imports at the oficial rate. Maybe farmland except...

On Argentina’s Pampas, Farmers Are All In on Libertarian Milei

In addition to the taxes aren't they selling for dollars and receiving pesos at the official? Or is there some kind of dolar soja.

    Hand tools

Not really hand tools but the Stihl products are very competitively priced here. I guess Bahco is one of the best if you need to get new hand tools locally. I wish there was a Harbor Freight equivalent store.
