Getting cash USD out of Argentina

It was legal a month ago, so it would all depend on whether the rules changed in the last month. In the document of sale from the escribano (not sure whether this document is the "escritura" or "escritura" is the actual act of completing the sale), there is a value assigned in pesos - Valuacion...

Getting cash USD out of Argentina

i can't offer any comment on that except that we had no trouble whatsoever and my inlaws have done this for years when they come to visit. On exiting the country, they border agents were completely uninterested in the what was in our backpacks. Rationally, I have always heard $10,000/person. And...

Getting cash USD out of Argentina

My understanding is the 10k limit is only for residents in Argentina. Without a DNI that has an Argentinean address, you are screwed. You are a non-resident. End of story.

Getting cash USD out of Argentina

Yes there are restrictions or we would have transferred the money from the sale of our apartment a month ago. If you are non-resident, i.e. your DNI has a non-Argentinean address, you are treated the same as foreigners in terms of being able to electronically send money from the country...

Getting cash USD out of Argentina

Our understanding was 10K USD per person. After all of our other hassles, and the huge cost in fees to do the closing, we weren't about to risk those numbers. Someone else stated the same numbers earlier in this thread. Plus 5k per child. Our experience leaving Argentina was of complete...

Getting cash USD out of Argentina

In terms of AFIP, there was a smaller bill of around $400USD (converted to pesos) that was something like property taxes. I'd have to go look it up to tell you for sure. The much larger amount was a capital gains tax that we were forced to pay even though a friend had been living rent free in...

Getting cash USD out of Argentina

I would check with your bank and make sure all of your ducks are in a row in terms of transferring money. The information we got was that if the bank accounts interior and exterior were in the identical names (you know how Argentina is a stickler for that stuff), then transferring from a...

Getting cash USD out of Argentina

We had no choice. His DNI had expired over a decade ago - we're both Canadian citizens and he's lived in Canada for 20 years - and in order to sell he had to renew his DNI through the consulate here with his Canadian address. At the time we started the process in May, we had no idea of the...

Getting cash USD out of Argentina

We just completed the sale of our apartment in BA. If you are resident with a bank account, our understanding was that you could send the whole amount in one transaction for a real estate transaction, but you need a DNI with an Argentinean address. If the property is jointly owned, as ours was...

    Opening a bank account

Hi all I thought I would offer an update on our real estate transaction. Everything worked out in the end, but since it's Argentina, not necessarily the way we were hoping to do it originally. We completed the transaction in cash and secured all but $20k, which we brought home with us, in...

    Opening a bank account

thanks Artisans. The buyers are rich and have money in the USA and the simple, if unpalatable, solution will probably be to negotiate a lower final price and have them wire the money from the States rather than Argentina. If we hadn't been screwed around badly by AFIP who never credited our tax...

    Opening a bank account

My partner and I have owned an apartment in BA for 12 years. We are residents of Canada and both Canadian citizens, although he is also an Argentinean. We bought in the sunny days of the Nestor Kirchner presidency. At the time it was part of retirement planning since his family was all there and...
