Rat coming up the toilet! Common in Buenos Aires?

Thanks. Yes, rats are a given in any city. They are everywhere. My question is specific to them coming up toilets in Buenos Aires and whether it's a common occurrence here, perhaps the way plumbing systems are. We spoke with our plumber yesterday. He wasn't surprised. We are now looking into...

Rat coming up the toilet! Common in Buenos Aires?

A house. The toilet the rat came through is on the ground floor. I wondered the same as we have another toilet upstairs. I wouldn't put it past a rat to climb up interior toilet pipes to higher floors! See the video in this article...

Rat coming up the toilet! Common in Buenos Aires?

Yes, although I read that big rats can still push up the lid and get out!

Rat coming up the toilet! Common in Buenos Aires?

Ok, so here's one from left field. We just had a rat come up a toilet! We heard a strange gurgling sound coming from the bathroom and my wife went to check. To her immense shock she was confronted with a large rat in the toilet bowl. I then went to check and it was gone. Presumably (hopefully!)...

    Who are buying houses?

I don't think a lot has changed in the (over)pricing of real estate here for many years. We bought our place in Palermo nearly 11 years ago for 30% less than the asking price. Market value is what buyers are prepared to pay, not what sellers are asking. To add to what has been said, the real...

    Western Union money transfer

Wow. 391.1 as of now. Is this the first time it's higher than dolar blue (currently 377)? Surely dolar blue due for a jump soon? Also, I just noticed that WU US charges a minimum USD 22.99 transfer fee per transaction! FYI, WU Australia charges AUD 0.99 (USD 0.66) per transaction. Go figure!

Best Internet Service Provider in CABA?

How widely available is fibre optic in CABA, other than San Telmo? Anyone got it in Palermo? After enquiring of Claro, Movistar and iPlan (all fibre optic), none are available for our place...yet. So for now it leaves the rather empty choice of Personal or Telecentro.

Best Internet Service Provider in CABA?

Thanks all for your responses. As always, some spirited debate. Just a note on prices. I'm told by my mother-in-law that you need to be on top of these companies as they will overcharge you unless you call them regularly and ask for discounts and upgrades (and threaten to leave if required)...

Best Internet Service Provider in CABA?

Palermo. It looks like there are only about half a dozen options anyway.

Best Internet Service Provider in CABA?

We are looking to change ISPs from Telecentro. I know there are a lot of variables to consider, but any recommendations as to the "best" based on people's experiences? Thanks!

Foreign credit cards purchases at MEP rate

No. As far as I know, it only works for Visa and Mastercard. One further tip...bring a Visa or Mastercard debit/credit that charges no fees on overseas transactions. Most will charge a further 3% on foreign exchange. Several banks in Australia now offer cards with no fees on overseas...

Foreign credit cards purchases at MEP rate

So it seems Visa is transparent on their rates... https://www.visa.com.ar/soporte/consumer/viajes/tipo-de-cambio-english.html (apologies if this link has been posted already) And as has been noted, you can check your actual Visa rate in real time here...

Recommendation needed for wooden floorboard work

Hi All, Can anyone recommend a guy or a company that specialises in wooden floorboard work? We have an estilo frances house in Palermo Hollywood where the supporting beams under the floorboards need repair or replacement - the floorboards are flexing in certain sections. If anyone has had this...
