    Average salary for TEFL teacher.

BBBuler, we split our time between BA and the central coast. I think it's far easier to make a good living in California. Lots of those teaching English here are low paid kids. Most I know came with mony to supplement their earnings. Rent is chep if you're willing to live in a dump, but food...

Imports, really feeling the pinch now

It's going to get worse, not better. Argentina is cutting itself off from the rest of the world for the rest of Christina's term anyway.

    On American food in BsAs

Please, please tell me where the good food a la Alice Waters is. Finding a good, healthy meal here remains elusive for us.

    Recruitment agencies in BA??

In all honesty, it's unlikely a recruitment company would talk to a non Spanish speaking foreigner without a work permit.

    Recruitment agencies in BA??

That's interesting. We run a software development company and every single one of our employees speaks very good English. All of the ibankers I've met here also do.

    Recruitment agencies in BA??

Speaking English is not a big ticket as the highly educated in those businesses mostly all speak English.

How many of you want to leave Bs As?

I sent my kids to private school's in CA without believing I had a choice. We did save money during the study aboard term here, which cost a fraction of what a term at an ivy league college costs.

The Queen Says No To Spanish Hams, Imported Meats

I call Argentine ham "ham food." it reminds me of the cheese food in the states-a bastardization of a real food. This is sad, it's already hard to get good sandwich stuff. And I suppose the delicious little pigs they sell here will soon be gone, they will become massive adult pigs that prouce...

How many of you want to leave Bs As?

So ny of the numbers are suspect. Private school in SD for $700/mo. Huh? Private schools in CA are running over over $30K/yr now. And good apartments in BA are not cheap. You can get 400 Sq. ft. In a student type apartment for low rent, but those who want better will pay quite a bit,as good...

Couple looking for room in shared house/flat from April to July

There are so many better choices if you want to learn Spanish and get a job. It's the job part that's very difficult here. Brazil, Uruguay and Chile all have many more and much better paying jobs for foreigners.

So, you like to bash Argentina?

No, I really don't think so as the governments in Europe might have increasingly socialist leanings, but they're not irrational and there is not out of control inflation.

    Some expat observations

There seem to be many young kids still coming here for their year of living abroad. Fewer are coming who want career oriented jobs and many fewer to do business here or transferred here by multinationals.

    Unaffected Middle Class

We pay our employees upper middle class salaries and none of them seem to be vacationing abroad this year. They seem to watch their spending, not liking to buy lunch in Palermo for example.

    Newcomer beginning to have doubts

I think the biggest issue is whether you can bring significant dollars. It is expensive to live a comfortable middle class lifestyle on a teaching salary unless you can supplement it with more than SS.

    Getting best value for pesos

This country is working hard to stop capital flight, no way they'd let you do that.

    Life in Hurlingham

The type of clubs the typical expat here are interested in run much more to night clubs than exclusive polo clubs. You'll probably find more people interested in what you are at places like Lincoln School and through your company if you're being transferred here.
