    Internet Disfunctional Now

@arlean: in your position I think I'd be doing the same. Do you have any kind of vpn facility you could use? If you could make a vpn connection (to basically anywhere that isn't fibertel) then it would likely resolve the routing issue. (not a very easy solution granted, but I'm always...

    Internet Disfunctional Now

I was the one moaning recently: http://baexpats.org/topic/27548-fibertel-throttling-is-it-just-me/ It's been reasonable since I changed the mac address on the router (but it seems that my setup was unusual in that I could do that). On a related note: I invested in one of these the other day...

Fibertel & Throttling. Is It Just Me?

Seems I was very lucky then :) I had a similar issue with the supplied arnet modem/router: it came pre-configured with no access to settings. A little googling turned up the default password though, so all was good :D

Fibertel & Throttling. Is It Just Me?

Is that a modem or a router? Looks like a modem tbh. Mine is just a modem (says 'Scientific Atlanta' on the front), so I could change the address on the router (an off-the-shelf linksys) without having to get into the modem settings. Unfortunately that wasn't the case for me. The throttling...

Fibertel & Throttling. Is It Just Me?

They do, but it's not really throttling as such. They effectively pay for bigger/better pipes to bigger markets. (Granted, the end result is the same of course) @trennod, @RichardRPTownley: that seems to be the best approach - moan a little and the problem goes away. Would that I had the will...

Fibertel & Throttling. Is It Just Me?

Sounds like that could be our issue. We're on the standard fibertel package. I think it's 6 megs? Any idea what the monthly quota is? I wasn't even aware that there was one. Router is currently showing about 100 gigs (75gigs downloaded, 25gigs uploaded) for the calendar month. (sounds big...

Fibertel & Throttling. Is It Just Me?

@arlean: been in the same boat. In our last apartment we *only* had arnet for a while, and it was just horrendous. When we moved here (about a year ago), we got both. We use arnet as a backup (and for low traffic stuff like dns and voip), and, aside from being slow (usually ~1Mbit/s), it's...

Fibertel & Throttling. Is It Just Me?

I do get the occasional slowdown around 6pm also, but this is much worse than that. Just started another download, 550MB this time (again, from Apple). For the first few minutes it ran at somewhat slow, but acceptable, 200-300KB/s. Now it's down to around 30: I'm pretty sure now, this is...

Fibertel & Throttling. Is It Just Me?

Yup, reasonably confident that it's not a technical issue here (I used to do networking stuff for a living). I guess I'm hoping that someone else will say "Hey, that's happening here also!" ... then I won't feel like I'm being picked on

Fibertel & Throttling. Is It Just Me?

I've noticed that our Fibertel Internet appears to be throttled as of late (maybe in the last week or so - I've only noticed it really in the last few days). Downloads start at their usual mind-blowing 5 or 6 megabits, but quickly reduce to 0.5 megabits or less (within maybe a minute or two)...

    Pesos On The Plane Info.

thanks - I owe you one :) Update: Well I totally failed to find the forum/post in question. But I can understand why you don't want it to be too easy to find. I think the likelihood is that this is a clerical error in the bank the question - so the less people that know about it the...

    Pesos On The Plane Info.

I'd be very curious as to which bank does this also. I've tried a few times over the years to exchange pesos in Irish banks, generally receiving a blank stare, followed by an "Argentine Pesos are a 'closed currency'", and a polite refusal. (I'm not at all questioning whether it happened, just...

    General Anaesthetic Experience Here?

In my limited experience, I've found that private healthcare here in BAires is better than in the UK. I'm not sure if it's as well regulated here (not knowing anyone who works in the field here), but the general standard appears to be higher. Best of luck with your operation nlaruccia! And to...

Plum That Defies Natural Decomposition...what The Heck??

My guess would be GM rules are a little relaxed here. Tomatoes last for a disconcerting length of time also (and desperately lack flavour)

    It Professional Salaries

I can't stress enough just how valuable it is. Anyone can bluff their way through a few uni exams, but get your code accepted into an established open-source project and you're in a much more elite group. Another option to consider would be to do a GSOC (if you haven't already). Positions are...

    It Professional Salaries

IT is quite difficult to get into now, for exactly this reason. New programmers (read "fresh out of uni") are viewed as a liability for the first year or two - even the really really good ones cost money at the start. If you're saying that "I know Java", would it be correct to say that it is...

How Do You Get Your Us/english Tv Fix?

Honourable mention also goes to zattoo. More channels than you can shake a stick at (although only the european ones, and you'll need something like tunlr to get around their geofencing). I have to say though, I (almost) never watch live tv now. Sickbeard will generally pick up shows a few...

How Do You Get Your Us/english Tv Fix?

What a great find! Didn't know about this one. :) I maintain a fork of a program called Sickbeard, which does much the same thing (it's free, but it's not easy to set up). For bypassing geofencing we use http://tunlr.net/. And for the actual watching, we use XMBC on the TVs, ipads, phones etc.
