Finally ! the devaluation we were waiting for will take place on monday !

Yes from an economic standpoint but remember governments often intervene in the currency markets, right now the government wants to create the impression of stability so they won't want the Peso to fall too dramatically before the election. After the election watch out.

    Passport woes for Newborns

I seriously doubt you would have any trouble leaving with a U.S. passport, you could check with the embassy when you apply. You are a U.S., citizen with other kids please make sure their births are registered as well. They can certainly have dual citizenship if you want but I wouldn't pass up...

    Passport woes for Newborns

If you are Americans go into the embassy and register the birth and get a U.S. passport. I know a couple from another S.A. country that had a daughter in Argentina, it took them about 8 months to get an Argentine passport for here.

Argentina on the cusp of hyperinflation

I agree, much better to have sustained growth of 3 or 4% a year than a few years of high growth followed by a crash where all past progress is wiped out. You would think as the article states that a few lessons would have been learned in Argentina from past problems but apparently not.

Argentina on the cusp of hyperinflation

I agree I think this is a likely outcome. To see how soon this will end watch China and the degree its economy slows down, certainly signs of this now. If China slows down significantly then commodity prices are going to fall which will have a big impact on South American and Argentina. What...

Argentina on the cusp of hyperinflation

Hard to say in the future, the peso in the last couple of years has declined against the dollar but nowhere close to the actual inflation rate.

    Filing taxes

There nothing wrong with hiring a CPA, just more expensive and probably not necessary in your case if all you have is a single W2. Good point on the automatic extension, although unless she owes something (I doubt) she wouldn't be subject to interest and penalties anyway.

    Filing taxes

Ok, if you received a W2 then social security taxes and perhaps income taxes have already been deducted from your pay. Given that you live overseas for all of the year you qualify for the Foreign Income Exclusion, you still owe social security taxes but those have already been deducted from your...

    Filing taxes

Ok, did you receive a W2 at the end of the year or a 1099 from your employer? You should have received something. Once you answer this question we can proceed. I am going to assume from your answer that you lived in Florida before coming to Argentina.

    Filing taxes

This is true if she meets the criteria but she would still be liable for self employment tax if self employed. There are some things that can be done to cut down on SE taxes but that's another story.

    Filing taxes

One other question, what part of 2010 (i.e. how many months, days) did you spend in Argentina?

    Filing taxes

I assume you are self employed, did you get a 1099? What state are you from in the U.S. Let me know this and I think I can help you out.

Argentina ready to cut deal with Iran, to forget about the bombings

Well the government finally said something on the issue, according to them they will continue to investigate. They kind of seem to side-step the main issue of whether or not they were trying to make a deal. They acknowledge the meeting to place where the offer was allegedly made but apparently...

Leaving San Diego for BA in April!

What would you say? My guess is the standard answer would be I want to find out more about life. What can they find in B.A. they can't find by staying at home? The poster may well be truthful about his objectives, but I don't see how quitting your job and moving to B.A. would necessarily...

    Chavez wins journalism award...

Well Hugo has closed I believe about 6 TV stations and over 30 radio stations and is always threatening more to any that are critical of him. If this is somebodies definition of freedom of the press I suggest that they buy a new dictionary. I don't know why some people can't accept the obvious.

I am not going to read about some ten year old event as justification for Hugo's ongoing attempts to eliminate freedom of the press. Don't duck the question, is Globalvision abusing its position as a monopoly because its the only independent broadcaster left in Hugoland. If that is what you mean...

    Chavez wins journalism award...

I don't get your post at all. Globalvision, abusing its monopoly position? Do you really mean that since Globalvision was the only independent outlet Hugo hadn't shut-down that they are now an abusive monopoly because no competitors are left? Don't understand this logic at all.

Leaving San Diego for BA in April!

Do what you want, depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Your chances of getting a job in your current field seems remote. At best you will have a hand to mouth existence teaching English or some other low-pay activity. I hope you are not just having trouble adjusting to adult life, (your...
