Vacation in BA last week of March and first week of April

I don't know how April 2nd is going to be handled. I don't think that it's a national holiday, but maybe it will be by then. It already is. And also, Thursday 6th is not actually feriado. In that week, only Monday (2nd) and Friday (7th).

    EZE to Palermo, Jan 11

Thirding Taxi Ezeiza - a friend left his iPhone in a cab coming from the airport and they returned it to him the same evening (for a small fee). They've always been good when I've used them.

Day without work in BA, what should we do?

You could come on my free tour!

    Receiving Packages

Yeah, you can pretty much expect any package you receive here to be held up and subject to ridiculous spurious charges. You will also probably have to go somewhere out of the way like Ezeiza or customs to pick it up. If you like the simple life, I would tell your family to save up the presents...

    Ladrones at LAN--help!

You could try contacting them through Twitter - I can only find a LAN USA account @lanairlinesusa but they might be able to get you to the right people. Companies don't like to see negative stories floating around with their name attached.

    Translation help

I would call that a warehouse. You could qualify it with "storage building". In my experience a hangar is generally planes only, and either way it's spelt "ar", not "er"!

David Rooney is banned here - and this is why

I'm not a regular poster here, but I do visit the site every 3 or 4 days and take a look at the main posts. Whilst I agree that there is a lot of useful knowledge on here, and amongst the main posters a lot of great advice, I find that the lack of moderation and the derails that happen in almost...

Perma-tourists and round trip plane tickets from BA

This has happened to me twice - both times with GOL, both times flying one way to EZE, once in Lima and once in Bogotá. The first time I did actually have an onward flight booked a month or so later which I printed out and showed the checkin lady. Before the second flight, just in case, I...

    Buying Bus Tickets

    1. If you're in Buenos Aires, the best thing to do is go to a Plataforma 10 booth - there's one in Abasto Shopping and one in Palermo Alto. You can check times out on plataform10.com in advance and buying there is a lot simpler than Retiro and they sell tickets for all the lines, so no need to...

Where to go for Yellow Fever vaccine in BA?

Seconding this. In fact I went to Stamboulian who told me not to get the yellow fever there, but to go to the free clinic. Check the opening hours and be prepared to queue.

Contact lenses - online - possible in BA?

Yeah, that's a silly price. I paid something like 600 pesos for 6 months supply (ie 6 pairs) from the opticians next door to where I live.

    Looking for Volunteer Opporunities

You could try Unión de los Pibes - I volunteered there about 18 months and had a great time - they always welcome new people. They're having a picnic with the kids tomorrow, 11am in Parque Lezama.

    Arriving on one-way ticket. Problems?

My experience is that I have flown twice into Argentina with a one-way ticket and on both occasions the airline (Gol) would not check me in without proof of a ticket leaving Argentina. The first time was in Lima and luckily I had a flight booked to the US a couple of months later - all I had to...

    new in BA, help!!

I run a free tour (www.buenosaireslocaltours.com) which leaves every day (mon-sat) at 11am from Plaza Italia in Palermo. The idea is to see some of the sights of Buenos Aires but also to show newly arrived long-term visitors & tourists how the public transport system works here to help you get...

    Pub Quiz this Monday, 17th

I'm organising a pub quiz this coming Monday and thought it would be great if a BAExpat team came along and flexed their mighty brain muscles! It's at La Cigale (25 de Mayo 597) from 7pm. Teams of up to 6 people are allowed, but we'll try and group anybody coming alone or in a couple together...
