    Best bus companies to Mendoza?

I've never, ever seen an outlet on a bus. Just a headphone plug.

Philadelphia Cream Cheese and Sour Cream

Wow, I stand corrected. Next time I head to the Coto near my office, I'll need to keep an eye out for the Philly. I guess I shop at all the wrong places.

Philadelphia Cream Cheese and Sour Cream

I haven't seen Philadelphia Cream Cheese sold here for at least 6 years. Maybe I just didn't look hard enough or go to the right places though. The closest thing you'll find to sour cream is Casancrem or Mendicrem. At Coto, they used to sell boxes of tortilla chips that came with packages of...

New Zappos-like shopping site in Argentina

I was happy to stumble upon this website today: http://www.dafiti.com.ar Very similar to Zappos. Good selection, decent prices, good exchange/refund policy, online payment, free shipping in Buenos Aires (and some other provinces).

    Exchanging Pesos in the US

I just got confirmation that my relative was able to exchange a few hundred pesos for dollars at the Miami airport on Tuesday. The rate was $5.50, which sucks, but better than nothing.

Where can I buy a good hair straightener/flat iron?

GAMA perhaps? I bought one by that brand here about 6 years ago and it is much better than the old one I had from the US. It wasn't cheap but it was well worth the investment. Plus, I can travel with it - its 110/220 compatible.

    Exchanging Pesos in the US

I just got off the phone with the currency exchange booth at the Miami airport (Concourse E Level 2) and they confirmed that they DO buy Argentine pesos. Rate: $5.50 to the dollar.

    Best bus companies to Mendoza?

CATA, Sendas and Andesmar have good service. Hopefully you'll get a newer bus. The older ones usually aren't quite as comfortable. As mentioned before, make sure to get Cama Ejecutivo/Cama Suite/Cama Total. A few weeks ago I travelled on CATA and the service was excellent, the food was quite...

    Has anyone used XOOM before?

Interesting to hear. The guy at Banco Francés had told me that the DNI requirement was set by the Banco Central. Maybe they changed their policy.

    Has anyone used XOOM before?

I've used Xoom before and had no problems. At the time, I was able to receive the money in dollars. From what I've heard, that is no longer the case. You can only get pesos. One word of caution: If you don't have a DNI, you'll need to send the money to someone who does or else the bank won't...

    No more books or magazines

The problem is when you want to read on the train or the bus. There's no way in hell I'd whip out my tablet here while riding on public transportation.

    No more books or magazines

I decided to make a book run today and stopped by Librería Santa Fe on Cabildo and Lacroze. They normally have at least two full shelves of books in English but today, there weren't enough books to filled up even one shelf. Mostly Danielle Steele and Dean Koonz novels. Not exactly my cup of tea...

Prohibition on drawing from accounts in pesos from outside Argentina from April 3rd

The big problem is if I want to buy more dollars than what AFIP will allow me to purchase. Say I have $10,000 pesos in my account and want to buy dollars and transfer them to my U$S account. If AFIP only authorizes U$S 500, for example, I'm still screwed. I can't touch the rest of my money from...

Prohibition on drawing from accounts in pesos from outside Argentina from April 3rd

It seems that Argentine credit cards can still be used abroad - for now.

Prohibition on drawing from accounts in pesos from outside Argentina from April 3rd

This is extremely disturbing news, as I oftentimes withdraw funds from my Argentine account when I travel abroad. How on earth do they expect Argentines to travel internationally? With credit cards only? What about people who don't have credit cards? This is absolutely bogus. Grrrr. Viva Cristina.
