Going back to the US soon. Anything I should know about my computer?

If the small print on the power supply reads something like 100-240v, 50-60hz then you are good to go. No adjustment necessary. Nearly all power supply units are like that these days.

A bit lost: Applying for a Family reunification visa, Radex application next?

I think we might have a bit of a language problem here. I think the consulate are probably correct: you can not apply if you entered on a tourist visa. But if you are an EU citizen you will have entered visa-exempt which is whole different thing.

    Hello and a cash question

It depends. Different countries, different rules. And remember: this is about crossing the border in either direction, in or out. USA is USD10000 per family or group traveling together; UK is GBP10000 per family or group whilst Argentina is USD10000 per person. Best to check the rules for your...

    The Mess in Argentina

So who are these guys? Yes, I know who they say they are but I want to know who other people say they are. I'm sure that if King Herod had had an "About Us" page on his website it would have given a lot of guff about "Taking positive action to promote opportunities for the second born" or somesutch.

What @dlish sed. Diarco supermarket chain say they will accept dollar payments in any denominations but new, unused, unfolded, unmarked USD100s are the way to go. Not only will ATMs give you the official rate but they will deduct huge local fees and charges. Emergency Use Only. There is lots...

    How to run a survey?

If you really want to conduct genuine research you could do worse than starting by reading this: https://www.pewresearch.org/writing-survey-questions/ But if all you want to do is confirm your own personal prejudices then you are probably doing fine as you are.

    Deteriorating passenger trains

You don't have to wait for a future event: it's already happened. Does nobody remember the derailment in Palermo on the LSM this May? Many injured; thankfully nobody killed. IIRC the derailment wasn't caused by the theft of the signalling equipment but by the badly-thought-out workaround that...

Controlling a USA tablet from Arg for banking etc

I can't think what the problem can be unless you are using the account in some way that makes them nervous. There's an arms race going on between the banks and fraudsters and anything unusual can trigger alarms. My bank always knows where I am, when I'm going and when I come back. With 2FA I...

    Resturant for Party

Hi, Sam. How's it going? You probably need to be more specific about what you actually want in order to get usable info but here's my two-pennoth: Our kids treated me to a birthday tea at Hotel Alvear. Impeccable in every way and of course there was birthday cake! I wouldn't dream of asking...

Government deregulates long-distance transportation: reduces requirements on passenger insurance

Disclaimer: 1- it's a while since I was a fairly regular visitor to Paraguay and 2- I usually went via Encarnación because my business wasn't in the capital.. NSA was solid and dependable but nothing very luxurious while my goto company for traveling around Argentina has always been Andesmar...

    Did Bus Fares Increase?

It would be interesting to understand the mechanism the bus companies use for calculating distance and whether or not the driver just sticks their finger in the air to work out which way the wind is blowing and takes a guess. I must have way too much time on my hands. Fascinated by your...

I saw the weirdest thing at McDonalds on Florida street

Real-world application of Quantum Theory here: the observation has an influence on the outcome of the experiment. Even if it wasn't a set up, a sting, you were there watching for - how long? Two hours? I agree with Frank: two hours watching some anonymous someone else's unattended baggage could...

Government deregulates long-distance transportation: reduces requirements on passenger insurance

Interesting. I wonder what the long game is? Or even if there is a long game? To get the more risk-averse bus passengers onto Aerolineas? To boost the incomes of coffin-chasing lawyers? Because to be sure, after the next big bus fatality, they will be coming out in droves. The other article...

    Paying for Argentine Netflix account

This. And a person whose Netflix account is paid for in the US and lives in Argentina gets the Argentine selection - except when she's in the UK when she gets the UK selection. Incidentally, in my experience most of the streaming services know most of the free/cheap VPN addresses already and...

History of the Buenos Aires neighborhoods: San Nicolás

(I thought that I had mentioned the following before but my site search didn't find it so....) For anybody interested in the barrios of Buenos Aires I can recommend Buenos Aires Tiene Historia various authors, ISBN 9789870409526. It has maps, history and old photos. I bought my copy from Casassa...

Taxi rates. Am I being scammed?

I normally use scheduled transport to and from airports or book my own remis but the only time recently that I've used a cab from an airport the driver was scrupulously honest with me and got a decent tip at the end of the journey for being so. When he discovered that I didn't have the taxi app...
