    Moneygram

Thanks for the unnecessary sarcasm. I pointed it out because MoneyGram has been the better option for most of the last 6 months after considering fees (US to Argentina, debit to bank or wallet). Sorry for trying to help you. Try again on the translation of my name.

    Moneygram

Did you factor in Western Union's fee? If varies from country to country. For the US, transferring under US$500, the fee is more than 5%, then 5% up to 1500. It's substantial.

    Moneygram

Right now it is showing 1267 (I think that's some promo rate). The official rate is 983. When I log in, it shows me 1214 to bank account (with $2 fee), 1243 to wallet (no fee). https://www.moneygram.com/mgo/us/en/

The dreaded 90 day closure letter

It is an international account and they know that I live outside of the US. I did not have to provide my DNI. Only my SS number. I did have to provide copies of two utility bills to prove that I live where I said I lived.

My Charles Schwab brokerage account has the same restriction.

    Moneygram

WU charges people from the US 5% or more for transfers under US1500. That's much more than MoneyGram's flat 2 dollar fee. And if you transfer to Mercado Pago or another wallet, you get a better rate and there is no fee at all.

How an Argentine Can Get a Bank Account in the USA

By the way, if you haven't read it, it's one of the greatest novels of the twentieth century. I highly recommend it.

Food prices are amongst the highest of the planet

No. I'm sorry but that's wrong. You showed a price for lomo at the blue rate now in 2024. My post was to show that I was getting a much better price for lomo than the best (blue) rate quoted in your post. And that my price was lower than the price in 2009, not higher. I showed the...

How an Argentine Can Get a Bank Account in the USA

Be careful with item #2. A few years ago, I added my Argentine wife to my account online. I received a notice a couple days later that the bank was closing my account (of 20 years) immediately. With a 3 hour call to the states I was just barely able to undo adding her to the account before...

Anybody tried to open a bank account online without DNI, but with a CDI?

I have a friend that is trying to open a bank account and it will be a while before she has her DNI. I sent her links to the threads where people successfully opened accounts with CDI, but I was wondering if anybody tried opening an account online with a CDI.

Trying to understand an email from Santander

This is obviously for the blanqueo (tax amnesty). You only need to think about this if you've been hiding your wealth from the government (and taxes) and now you want to "come clean."

Mercado Pago - Can I top my account up using a foreign debit card?

I use Moneygram (another money transfer service) to transfer to Mercado Pago. I've been using it for a few months. Select "transfer to wallet." There's no fee, and the rate (when factoring in the WU fee) is better than Western Union most of the time (but worse than dolar blue these days)...

The AFIP no longer requires rental contracts to be registered

I think this decision was at least as much political as it was fiscal. The requirement to register with the AFIP was a new requirement introduced with the ley de alquileres, which Milei did away with his first day in office.

    Western Union money transfer

I've had dozens. The ATMs in the banks in the "city" section of the microcentro have had them continuously for more than a month, and various other ATMs around the city, too, but not all the time. I got them at a cueva the other day. I think the 20,000 notes are coming in October.

Food prices are amongst the highest of the planet

I'm getting lomo now at a carniceria near my house for 10000 pesos el kilo. At today's blue, that's about US$ 7.20 el kilo. And using MODO, I get a 35% discount (maximum discount of 6000 per week). That brings the price down to about US$ 4.70 el kilo.

Food prices are amongst the highest of the planet

I find it better than most of the wines in the 4000 - 5000 range. It's very drinkable. Give it a try. At that price it's low risk. I've tried all the reds, I think, except for the Malbec. I haven't liked most of the low priced Malbecs that I've tried.
