Corona Virus May Hit Argentina Hard

I've wondered the same thing about altitude. Currently stuck in Cuenca waiting to return to Argentina. Lived in Ecuador for five years and visited Guayaquil numerous times. From personal experience, have to say this article is spot-on as to why Guayaquil has so many cases (maybe in addition to...

    Visiting BA for a month

Hi Julio, As a recent newcomer, here are some of my suggestions: 1. Use your local Chino for shopping and everyday wine and your local vinoteca if you want something special. Depending on the neighborhood you may be able to use your debit/credit card instead of paying cash. 2. I use the...

My recommendation for a computer data recovery company

Recently I had the misfortune of my hard drive going bad and not having all of my data backed up off line. If you ever find yourself in this situation I highly recommend Recupero Datos. They are extremely professional, with excellent communication (Whatsapp, email, and in person) and super...

Buying air tickets with US bank card, etc.

My experience is that it depends on the vendor, not only for airlines but other sellers as well. Sometimes my U.S. debit card is accepted, other times I have to use my credit card. PayPal might be another option to consider, by linking the account to the card you prefer to use.

Mochi bean cakes in Buenos Aires?

I was finally able to visit all three places on my search for mochi and here is what I found: 1. Tienda Ohno - small shop in the Belgrano Market one block from the Juramento subte stop line D. Unfortunately I arrived at closing time, but if you've not been the Market is interesting with large...

Legal Complaint against Cristina for Accusing Macri of Connections with Italian Mafia

I only glanced at the article, but I suppose CFK is trying to draw a parallel between Mafia loan sharking, supposed Macri family Mafia connections, and Macri borrowing from the IMF? This, combined with her recent statement that Argentina won't repay half a cent to the IMF until the economy...

    Argentina introduces major tax reform

Have give Fernández credit for his detailed answer, even if one doesn't agree with his response!

    Visa/Residency advice - Student Visa, citizenship, forming a S.A.

Hi Maxwell, Have you considered scheduling a consultation with an immigration attorney? They understand the system and know the ropes, so to speak, and would be able to develop the best plan for you specific situation.

    Argentina introduces major tax reform

Raising taxes (or not letting them expire) is the easy part and makes the IMF happy. I give President Fernández a lot of credit for his road tour to enlist the help of other counties and organizations with the debt restructuring. But, what is the government actually doing to boost the economy...

ArgenChina: How China molds the Argentine economy

I've never heard the term "ArgenChina" before. Nice in-depth article about Chinese investment in Argentina: https://es.panampost.com/editor/2020/01/20/como-china-moldea-la-economia-argentina/

Violent protests in Chile: Will this spread to Argentina?

So if I'm reading this correctly, it would take a low-income Chilean 180 years to reach the (current?) mean income level in their country, assuming a generation is 30 years?

    I'm new on this site

Hi Kev, If you like it here, I think it is a good move no matter your age or work status. As Iz suggests, you just have to figure out how to make things work for your specific situation. The one thing I do suggest (if you don't already) is to learn Spanish. Your life will become much richer and...

How Argentina Embarked on the Road to Ruin

I think this is true for most countries, not just Latin / South America or "communist" countries, it just appears in different shapes and forms. Politicians become more entrenched and detached from the real world (Chile is an excellent current example, not only Piñera but the entire political...

Mochi bean cakes in Buenos Aires?

Does anyone know of a specific place in Chinatown (or anywhere else in Baires) that sells mochi? Those are the rice cakes filled with different types of bean paste. I thought with the Chinese New Year just around the corner they would be popular - if they're not already a standard item in some...

How Argentina Embarked on the Road to Ruin

Nice article, thank you. It's interesting to look at countries with seemingly equal potential and see the different paths they've followed.
