Anybody else thinking the cure is worse than the disease?

I've written elsewhere on here about my office's covid 19 infestation. I'm going to be tested for antibodies this week to confirm (two step process). Only one person got even mildly sick (well, to the point of hospitalization) out of almost 30 people exposed, and not one of their family...

Anybody else thinking the cure is worse than the disease?

Like we've seen pointed out elsewhere (and including by me): the deadliness of this virus is far far lower than what people currently perceive it to be, at least a couple orders of magnitude. Here's just the latest...

Argentina tries to restructure $83bn debt

Does Argentina even have anything left that the Southern District of New York's courts could issue seizure orders on?

BA Real Estate market to take a dive before the end of the year.

What's strange is that in the US, you have full blown immigrant communities of every single non-wealthy country, without exception. These immigrant communities are permanent and look toward integration. The countries where you don't have immigrant communities are all rich - western Europe...

She's posting on instagram these days. But you're right, not her, I don't think. Wonder where I saw that . . .

Didn't Allie Lazz put up a list? Or am I crazy and it was someone on another blog/Instagram page?

BA Real Estate market to take a dive before the end of the year.

I second that too. I've regaled people here with stories about South America - crossing the Panama canal, being kidnapped in Peru, batting around Uruguayan wine country with a certain American actor - and nothing is as shocking to most people as the ultra low migration rates. Even the...

BA Real Estate market to take a dive before the end of the year.

I too am highly skeptical that prices will drop significantly in our ex-pat BA hoods. Of course, you'll have foreigners who are done, and a few local people who tried their hand at airbnb who want to cash out, so there will be sales. But my sense is that in the parts of BA that people like us...

Argentine wifes inches from getting the boot

I'm just saying that lockdown was an unnecessary and ruinously costly response to this problem, and those measures only have wide public acceptance because of a broad overestimation of the dangers the virus poses. If we knew from the start what we'll eventually come to know about how relatively...

Argentine wifes inches from getting the boot

It's becoming more clear that strict lockdown was a very blunt and probably very bad idea. Evidence is mounting that - as I've been surmising - the rates of infection are far far greater than generally realized, and that this virus is far less harmful that generally assumed. Editorial from...

Dry Law in half of the country

It should scare me more than that this sentiment of 'no we can't' led to the infliction of avoidable economic apocalypse? Instead of, what, widespread testing and quarantines of infected people?? I'm pretty sure I won't be getting back to Argentina this year, which is probably a good thing as...

Dry Law in half of the country

All without much proof that these additional measures increase the effectiveness of slowing the spread, or any sort of plan to link restrictions to medical capacity, or any regime for widespread testing (which would cost less than what they're doing to the economy now). The most effective...

Argentine wifes inches from getting the boot

Check the many MD and PhD linked conversations in that twitter thread. Remember too that I'm especially interested in the massive level of underreporting because I myself had the virus, as did a large number of my work colleagues but, for all of us, there was a total of 1 positive test and a...

Ah, I see, thanks for correcting. You should click on the link, review the study methodology, outline your criticisms, and submit them to the New England Journal of Medicine so that they can retract the article.

Argentine wifes inches from getting the boot

It's becoming more and more clear that this virus - while deadly - has infected far more people than generally known. Between March 22 and April 4, 2020, all pregnant women at two NYC hospitals were tested. 13.7% were positive and, of these, 87.9% were asymptomatic. Think about the giant...

Argentine wifes inches from getting the boot

Ben's points are that: (1) The "positive tests" metric isn't very useful except to inform of the extent testing has occurred. We certainly have a lot more cases than we have positive tests, and my theory and experience (see first page) is that the infection rate is probably an order of...

    For Coronavirus junkies

^ That seems so unbelievable that you already have a whole bunch of people explaining that this is probably wrong. WHO is investigating the testing techniques, because it's so unlikely that this virus is that much different that all the others. (then again, I say that as a Covid 19 survivor...

Argentine wifes inches from getting the boot

Ah damn, I'm very sorry to hear that. I can see why you're so paranoid. Assuming you're on the younger side, the overwhelming likelihood is that this disease does not pose a risk to you or your wife. But, I can definitely see why you wouldn't want to take any risks.

Argentine wifes inches from getting the boot

You're being very paranoid. I guess I might as well tell my story. Our office here in California was hit with Covid 19 the first week of March. Only 1 of 26 people had symptoms worrying enough visit the hospital, our receptionist, who is in her late 50s. It was her positive test that got our...
