    More Movistar Questions

As far as I know, Movistar does not charge for incoming calls (including incoming Skype/VOIP calls with number shown as 1111111). It does not charge for incoming SMS either. As to what keeps depleting 20 pesos cards, you do know that balance automatically expires in 20 days, right? Why don't...

Baexpats Dinner: Crizia restaurant, September 2nd

Our next dinner will be at Crizia restaurant on Friday September 2nd at 9pm . This place is more upscale than restaurants we have chosen for our recent events. Some people say that Crizia is a home of ultimately impeccable fine dining. Please check their website reviews on TripAdvisor guia...

    cheap way TO EZE?

There are two smaller (in comparison with Tienda Leon) bus companies running to the airport from downtown: minibus ezeiza and aerobus . You can try your luck with them (I have no personal experience with either). But really, why don't you just take a taxi? :)

Global recession: An Argentine expat view

3.6% as of June. But anyway, I believe deflation is the danger, not inflation. When salaries are low, unemployment is high and stocks are down, people don't buy anything.

Best way to mail priority envelope? DHL vs FED EX?

One of my letters sent by Fedex visited Cairo 3 times before getting here. And each time I had to call them to explain that they are wrong. Apparently "CA" in Cairo was good enough match with "Capital Federal" :) . If I am not mistaken, DHL is only present in big cities and rely on somebody...

Best way to mail priority envelope? DHL vs FED EX?

I think prices of DHL and Fedex are about the same, you can get quotes on their websites. Both have standard size envelopes. DHL Express is faster than Fedex Economy. It is not exactly "next day", but day to get out, day in transit and day to deliver, so if your relative sends a package on...

    ATM Exchange Rates

I think the difference that you see is a combination of two currency exchange fees: 1% fee imposed by Visa/MC and 1% fee by your USA bank. That's why they are consistent across local ATM machines. It is quite likely Argentine banks have nothing to do with it at all.

    Outgoing Mail from Argentina

After5, Even though it is certified, your letter was sent out by regular mail. So, a few weeks delivery time does not sound unreasonable. It does not necessarily mean that your documents are lost or stolen. As to July 2nd date mentioned as the last date in tracking history, I believe, it is a...

Question about proof of US residence

What kind of certificate would you get from the US? Rental contract? House title? Scan of fourteenth amendment of the U. S. Constitution? Frankly, I think you need to go back to AFIP and talk to a different person, then to another person etc, until all your questions are resolved.

Where should I go to college? US or Argentina?

Regarding international universities there are only a few recognizable names like Oxford, Sorbonne etc. UBA is definitely not one of them. So, hardly you will be able to impress somebody with your UBA degree. On the other hand, it is better to graduate abroad, than from some low rated...

    Job Vacancy: Personal Administrative Assistant

He hires a contractor. As a rule of thumb, taxes are paid where work is performed. It is a responsibility of contractor to pay taxes on his income. When payment hits the bank, local government (well, actually, local equivalent of IRS) asks for a justification, finds out that it is income for...

UK citizen wants a US dollar account in Argentina!

Some big US banks do open accounts for foreigners: Bank of America, Wells Fargo, USBank etc. You do have to visit the bank personally to open an account. However, these banks have high ATM transaction fees. Something like 5 USD + 1-3% currency exchange fee. In addition, local ATMs in general...
