Can you still afford to live here?

what she said! As one of the rare people here who doesn't eat beef, this is a painful point for me.

    Rentista Visa - Specific Questions

Hi Brent. It sounds like you're well prepared! You have to go to the US Embassy (don't forget your passport) to get an official fingerprinting card. I'd recommend getting at least a couple extras just in case. All you have to do is show up at the Embassy and let them know what you want, and...

Anyone regret moving to b a

Well, on the topic of consumption, we can't forget the 'cuota' culture that exists among the locals here... many times I'll walk past a restaurant that is full, but if you look at what people have ordered a lot of the time it's just coffee and/or medialunas, and not the $35 peso sandwiches, etc.

Anyone regret moving to b a

All well and fine. There is a 20 page thread discussing the ins and outs of that discussion. THIS is a thread asking people if they regret moving to BA. Maybe you can contribute your opinion a year or so after you've done so. (I think you'll do ok on ~$4250 net a month in shared housing, and...

Anyone regret moving to b a

Xeneizes, I dont mean to rain on your parade, but you don't even live here yet! Online research and talking to people is a far cry from actually walking the walk for a year. Your salary won't be a "middle class" income in Argentina, either. I've participated in the threads where you've...

Compare prices in with BA and ....

Not bad, and a nice view from the balcony. I'd say that the challenge was more or less met in theory. But I have a few small quibbles. 1) I'm assuming that the expat website also assumes that "rent" includes building expenses (which in this case are $600 pesos a month on top of the $2300...

Anyone regret moving to b a

I'm sure that there are plenty who regret and/or regretted moving to BA, and then they left. I'm not sure that I would do it again if I could have that opportunity in retrospect. At the very least there are things that I'd likely do differently if given the chance, but one must always take the...

    used fridge?

Hi journeyjane. I will be selling mine (fridge with separate freezer) in a little more than 2 weeks. PM me if you're interested and can wait that long, and I'll give you the details.

How often do you fly home?

I like Canut's suggestion, but one would certainly need to have a lot of extra free time (and not be on a limited holiday) to take that route. I try to get home once a year, but it's been over a year since I've been back, and looks like it might be as much as two years before I'm really back...

would anyone recomend moving to B A

Have to agree. There is a search function of this website that seems to be seriously underused. the question that you ask has been asked literally thousands of times. Philip answered your question honestly and in the most concise way possible. Do some research, read around, don't be lazy and...

    Spicy food in BA

You're thinking aji molido. But you're going to be sorely disappointed if you buy that just about anywhere outside of china town and expect to get actual hot red pepper flakes. Frankly I think the tipico aji molido is made from bell peppers or something similarly NOT hot, but true red pepper...

are bars closed sat nite for elections?

Usually elections = prohibition, and you can't buy booze in the store. They cover up the alcohol section so you won't be tempted.

Great Things Argentina has that home doesn´t

So, I take it you've never been to Vegas, Tom? ;) (I know, assuming you're american) I, too, am a fan of the more leisurely pace that people here take towards just about everything (they do get wound up when they drive though!). I also love how everything starts and stays open late.

    Thai food in BA

Well, BA is not known for good ethnic foods, so don't get your hopes up too high. That said, there are a lot more options now than when I arrived. Lotus Neo Thai is supposed to be pretty good (in Barrio Chino, heard good things from friends) but I've never been there. $$ Sud Estada is...

    Parents visiting

Personally, I'd think that just about any visitor to Argentina would appreciate seeing/listening to some legit Tango. If for no other reason than it's a *huge* part of Argentina's culture. I don't think it implies that anybody's a fuddy duddy, or also can't enjoy a variety of other things...
