Buenos Aires: The PARIS of Latin America!

Maybe the "Paris of Latin American" is used to describe all the cultural/activities that occur in BA. It is hard to compare the two cities especially when the climates are so different.

    coming from Europe

Argentina has good international schools, and there are German schools. The schools run on the Southern Hemisphere schedule. This month is the last month of school before summer break. In fact, most schools end this week. The new year will start either at the end of January or beginning of...

    Life in USA vs. Argentina

Steveinbsas-funny you should mentions feeling safer. We live where there are no expats. I feel safer here. We walk to the trains after midnight, etc. There are robberies and violent crime, but you just have to be aware. I don't see people driving on the streets with guns out their car window...

Hey, I am moving down in 2 months and have some questions

Ask, the agency if the schools or the agency opens a bank account for you. If you work on the peso and have legitimate work papers, the school usually opens a savings account for you. If you get a checking account every time you write a check you get charged a tax.

    Change we can believe in

Funny for months the US was saying there was no recession..now they posted dated it to December 2007. There will be change..in more job layoffs and a lower standard of living. Change in the fact that "hopefully" the US won't be a bully to foreign governments. But any "radical" or "dramatic"...

    Change we can believe in

The only change we can believe in is if we don't vote for a Democratic or Republican. I still think we should give him a chance. I am very skeptical of some of his choices. I don't plan on rushing back to the US anytime soon. I wonder if he is going to have more press conferences as...

Napoleon..you made me laugh :) Seriously, I think the bidet is better than using those moist towelettes that they are selling in the US.

    Life in USA vs. Argentina

I think you can find similar things here as in the US. It depends on where you live and what you take out of it. If I compare living here to Chicago and compare cost as if I was earning dollars than certain things are cheaper here. The hectic life of living in downtown Chicago is more...

    car insurance in Argentina

Fadejaap- I know that in June '08 for my 1998 Honda civic to enter the country I would have to pay around $12K. Of course, I'm not here as a tourist. Our pets also had a duty on them also.

Tourist visa renewal and renewal and renewal....

steveinbsas--funny about your visa. When we arrived in June we couldn't leave the country until our visa was granted. Which took three weeks. We are now working on DNI, but they told us they aren't issuing DNI for non Argentina until the "new" system is in place. Again...longer waiting period.

    The American Decline

I think Stage 3 will begin in 2009. I think all the drama is to wake people up. Maybe some people will realize that material possessions are as important as family/friends. There could a regress back to the "good ole' days like the 50s in terms of family. Who knows? Yet, JP..you are right in...

    Hola

What is the average U.S. city a town of 25,000 or 50,000? I think the health insurance is going up along with other prices. But if the dollar to peso ratio works in his favor than he can live a "good" life here. Of course if you want to retire on the cheap move to a small a** town in the US...
