Does anyone else feel there might be a peso collapse this year?

I love that the IMF loan we're taking is going to be used to keep the peso artificially valued, it's the worst of both K and Mileista economic policy in one.

Milei pitches US-Argentina trade deal to Trump-friendly audience

Welp, as predicted by those of us with eyes and ears: The government is considering abandoning the idea of a Free Trade Agreement with Trump and is aiming for trade agreements with Mercosur's backing.
  3. Q

Is Donald Trump good for Argentina?

Trump is good for Trump, and the grifters connected to him (Musk, the various crypto weirdos, random corrupt officials in countries many Americans or Argentines don't know exist, etc.)

Argentina Disinflation Stalled in February Despite Peso Slowdown

So, no monetary issuance, chainsawed state, budget surplus, refinanced debt, and a devaluation of only 1% a month and the best we can get is annualized inflation of ~27.60%? Doesn't seem like it's really working or was worth all the ongoing suffering, but hey, I'm not the future Nobel Laureate...

Argentina makes international news for...cops beating up old people.

Mileistas love the boot provided it's being worn by members of their party.

Argentina makes international news for...cops beating up old people.

Death, Taxes, and Cops being assholes everywhere seem to be the only certainties in life

Argentines Ditch Dining Out as Milei’s Policies Strengthen Peso

VLLC! A single empanada is over $2.8K at many restaurants now, even the bad ones.

    In search of banking info

She can open account easily enough at any bank, though you should keep in mind that banks here are thieves for inbound international transfers. Most charge a $50 minimum and upwards of 3% of the total transfer for funds being received from abroad via SWIFT transfer, in addition to whatever your...

    Western Union money transfer

As a warning to folks, PagoFacil app is convenient for receiving WU transfers because it's instant and 24/7, but it's been down since Sunday, and still glitchy today.

    Coffee and cake prices

I rarely drink, but we were in Mexico last year and picked up a bottle of Don Julio 1942 and it was worth the money. Beautiful bottle, tequila, and was about $150 in Mexico vs. 375K here

    New Expat - Medical Insurance

If you're coming for a month or so you'll have an extremely difficult time finding any company willing to insure you for only a month. You're better off getting travel health insurance in your country of origin. Also, health insurance companies here are in some ways worse than American ones...

    Has anyone tried MercadoLibre International?

I use Aerobox, only had 1 problem (delayed due to huge amount of purchases during COVID) but works great since 2022, already used it twice this year. You get it delivered to their warehouse in Miami and then they send it here and take care of things with Aduana.

Chaos in the city: a blackout left more than 600,000 users without power

After 16 hours roughly I got my power back. Already made the claim w/ENRE, hoping to get a nice $275,524 ARS credit out of this.
  14. Q

    Coffee and cake prices

I think for those who are arguing that Argentina is still affordable are those with properties. When you part with between 30% and 50% of your income on rent/expensas/ABL/luz/AySA/MetroGAS/etc. it's difficult to save/trim/adjust, and while Milei and Co. like to celebrate an alleged "recovery"...

Chaos in the city: a blackout left more than 600,000 users without power

Been without power since 11:00, can't even track when it's supposed to be back because the ENRE site is down, nor can I make the reclamo. Great country we got here

Jorge Macri will announce the construction of the new subway line F

This is my opinion too, I don't care, I just want public infrastructure; grease the wheels that need greasing and send millions to accounts in Panama, as long as it means more/better transit the cost is worth it, especially considering how fast Buenos Aires is at building public transit compared...

Which US banks allow foreign addresses for automatic payments?

As others have suggested, don't do this. My advice is to keep the Chase account, (but change it to the cheapest package), change your address to a friend or family member's, and get a Wise account before leaving the US, it's great for traveling/living abroad, and has tons of features, plus if...

Calling from Europe with a local number

If anyone is looking for an alternative, I suggest Google Voice, I've been using it since 2012 and it works great (with a couple exceptions): - US Number for 2FA, no issues with banks or any companies so far - Free once you port your number - Free North America calls, free 800 number calls in...

Looking for an apartment in San Isidro area

I've successfully rented 2 apartments from Mercadolibre, and 2 from Zonaprop. I personally prefer Zonaprop these days.

How many 8oz packages of cheese can i bring in my luggage (EZE)?

I don't think I've ever had Aduana go through my stuff at EZE, AEP, or any other crossing/airport. That being said, I've never brought anything that's prohibited, and I just bring back max 1 checked bag so I'm probably not the profile of people they make open their bags, though with the cost of...
