How much more are you paying for your health (prepaga) insurance?

The main attraction for me and the Mrs is the very substantial and easy to use medical/travel insurance (Universal Assistance) included with the plan. We are outside the country frequently and that adds extra peace of mind and practicality. About eight years ago I had Moh's surgery on my face...

Milei Wants Argentines to Dollarize the Economy for Him

At some point the tax became known as Inmobiliario/ABL and is actually broken down on the bill into part that is a direct property tax and part that goes to pay for street sweeping, hygiene and street lights. The combined tax represents about 4.6% of the CABA government tax revenue.

Milei Wants Argentines to Dollarize the Economy for Him

ABL is in fact a property tax, at least in the City of Buenos Aires. It is literally a tax assessed on real property; currently I pay about $2400 USD per year per property in ABL which is not insignificant.

Looking for a decent and experienced architect for home renovation

I would not recommend someone get into the Airbnb game now; most of the market is saturated. A few years ago the cost to renovate and outfit real estate was only a fraction of what it costs today. Operating expenses (gas, electricity, internet, water, ABL, etc etc ) have gone way up.

Milei’s Austerity Plan Pushes Argentina Into Recession

Unfortunately economics is not a hard science and implementing economic policies that have worked in most/many places is often politically very difficult/ unfeasible. Argentina and Japan are infamous for having defied "the laws of economics" with outcomes that are the exact opposite of each...

Villarruel breaks tie in Argentina’s Senate to approve Milei’s flagship Ley Bases

You keep referring to Norway as if that is some sort of model that Argentina could even dream of replicating. Norway has a population of about 5.5 million people, AAA sovereign credit rating, and a culture/society/work ethic that is total different than Argentina. Argentina has a population...

Villarruel breaks tie in Argentina’s Senate to approve Milei’s flagship Ley Bases

You think exactly like the Kirchneristas, Communists, etc. This type of thinking is the exact reason why Argentina is a complete economic basket case despite having an abundance of marketable natural resources. The governments of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua have similar thinking and they...

Villarruel breaks tie in Argentina’s Senate to approve Milei’s flagship Ley Bases

I appreciate you taking time in your subsequent posts to list other (small scale) manufacturers that are either currently exporting or could/should be exporting when/if the economy is truly deregulated. Argentina exports about the same in USD terms as Chile yet has a population about 2.25x...

Food prices are amongst the highest of the planet

Thank you for participating and telling your story. The current recession is brutal and frightening, however, better days are coming now that the Ley Bases has been passed (it still needs to be gone over once more by the lower house of Congress). Greed will soon take over from fear and...

Villarruel breaks tie in Argentina’s Senate to approve Milei’s flagship Ley Bases

Where in the world is the cost of living NOT significantly more expensive than it was in 2003? Even at a 5% average inflation rate $100 USD in 2003 bought 3x of the same goods and services as $100 USD does in 2024.

No money down mortgages coming back in the US

The current mortgage market in the USA is absolutely nothing at all like the pre 2008 financial crisis mortgage market; today you need to have a good or excellent FICO score, proof of income that is verified by the lender via bank records and tax returns. The article says the duplex has 2130 square meters, so that's just over $5600 USD per square meter at the asking price (which the property has zero chance of receiving as a selling price).
