Any freelancers here billing in USD/EUR? Central Bank wants to force pesification of your income...

Yeah I saw that. I haven't done any facturas this week so I haven't used it, but I'm not sure exactly how it's supposed to work. Are we supposed to put an exact date for when clients are supposed to pay us? Maybe I'll just put 'as soon as possible'. If we have to specify a date, I guess I'll...

Any freelancers here billing in USD/EUR? Central Bank wants to force pesification of your income...

I asked TransferWise on Twitter, and they said that yes, they comply with the new rules. But when I asked them by email, I got a much more detailed reply explaining how they convert the money themselves and send the pesos here, so they do not comply with the new rules and they even said I should...

Anyone else having problems getting dollars in?

I don't know too much about these things, but I'm hoping that it won't be as bad as last time. I remember the dollar being really 'planchado' back in 2014-15, it was terrible. I'm just hoping that this time the official rate at last keeps up with inflation (more or less). Surely if there is...

Anyone else having problems getting dollars in?

Just a quick update for anyone who is interested. I managed to get my transfers approved by Galicia, but I had to bring the money in as a 'repatriación de fondos' because my clients paid me in my own bank account in the UK. It was a huge hassle, but at least I now know how to do it. (No help...

Any freelancers here billing in USD/EUR? Central Bank wants to force pesification of your income...

There's a good chance things will get worse (in terms of currency controls, at least). I remember when the last cepo was introduced back in 2011, you could still buy a few dollars at first, it was just a bit more hassle. Then it gradually got worse from there.

That sucks. Fortunately my accountant told me about that when it all happened and signed me up as a PyME so I never had any problems. Really stupid though – retenciones are only for anyone earning over 600,000 USD, so you would think you were automatically excluded being in the Monotributo. But no.

Any freelancers here billing in USD/EUR? Central Bank wants to force pesification of your income...

Ah, didn't realise that. I thought that the 'orden de pago' just had to arrive within 5 days, then you could turn up when you want to 'liquidar' it. Nothing's clear, to be honest. They make it so difficult for just trying to stick to the rules.

Any freelancers here billing in USD/EUR? Central Bank wants to force pesification of your income...

Yeah, it's nuts! You'll just have to wait until you get back to change it into pesos I guess. By the way, BCRA has made a few changes to the rules, so it looks like they are taking note of some of the problems faced by some sectors. Nothing here about exporting services, only 'bienes', but...

Yep Nubi seems pretty reasonable, especially compared to bank transfers. Looks like that's what I'm going to start using from now on.

Forgot to add – I think Nubi charges $10 USD per transfer from PayPal to your bank account (for transfers up to $2,000 USD if I'm right) and it converts the dollars into pesos. Then there's the PayPal fees, I think they're about 5% but I'm not sure.

Any freelancers here billing in USD/EUR? Central Bank wants to force pesification of your income...

This is the problem – no one knows! I've got responses from both Nubi and TransferWise that they do comply with the new rules, but they still sound a bit vague like they are not really sure. You never know who's answering your questions, they might not know themselves. I'd definitely recommend...

Any freelancers here billing in USD/EUR? Central Bank wants to force pesification of your income...

Yeah, I don't know. They have my Factura E, proof that the money was deposited in the last 5 days, the lot. They still say it has to go through as repatriacion de fondos. I don't really mind, as long as it gets through. Funny enough, the easiest part for me has been going to the bank. There's...

Anyone else having problems getting dollars in?

Thanks for that, I've never thought about it to be honest as I've never needed to, but it sounds like it's worth looking into. I'm holding out for them to increase the 5-day limit to something more sensible, which in my case at least will solve a lot of problems. There have been a lot of...

Any freelancers here billing in USD/EUR? Central Bank wants to force pesification of your income...

It's terrible. Honestly, I can't believe the ridiculousness. Well, I can. Let's make sure everyone brings their dollars over … but let's make it harder for them to do so at the same time. Surely, whatever the reasons for all this, they could have left in place the process where money gets...

Anyone else having problems getting dollars in?

That would be ideal, and is in fact what I was doing before the new rules were brought in (not wiring them in, but using services like TransferWise). There was no obligation to exchange foreign earnings in the local market until September 1st. (At least, for the last 3 years or so.) Now, the...

Anyone else having problems getting dollars in?

I just read a useful article on this issue for anyone exporting services which explains what's going on (Spanish): https://www.iproup.com/mundo-fintech/7476-divisa-pesificacion-freelance-Argentina-como-saltar-el-cepo-al-dolar-en-pagos-del-exterior

Anyone else having problems getting dollars in?

Yeah I think you're right about pensions, I think they are allowed to remain in dollars. But if you're exporting a service (e.g. a freelancer), you have to transfer the money into the country and it will be changed into pesos. The big problem for me with this is that they have only given a...

Anyone else having problems getting dollars in?

I don't use Payoneer much these days, but as far as I remember they don't allow you to send pesos directly to your Argentinian bank account any more. You have to send the dollars, then the dollars will arrive here and you have to go to the bank with your form, factura, etc, to 'liquidar' them...

Anyone else having problems getting dollars in?

Have you heard about the new rules brought in by the Central Bank a couple of weeks ago? I'm in the same boat, I work for clients in other countries. Basically, you cannot get dollars, euros, etc any more as all the money you send to your Argentinian bank account is now automatically changed to...

    Getting dollars in Argentina

No problem. The place I used was called Aspen and it is on the main street (Gral Flores 350). Here's a link. I haven't done it in years, but I imagine it's the same process. I usually called about 3 days in advance to book the money, and I never had any problems. I think the most I picked up in...
