    Will the expat invasion end?

I often forget that people worry about money, as I'm very wealthy. Not just love of the family and healthy wealthy but also money wealthy. Lots of cash.... Will the expat invasion end?. No. Perhaps next week or later but, for now, the hords will continue to arrive and invade.

    Arriving in June, questions

You can look on craigslist to get a rough idea of what it will cost for a tourist style temp apartment. These tend to be very expensive and in good areas, so don't take it as the only source for info or prices. Is it a good idea to pay through the nose to have a nice place and not work hard...

So true and ironic that the dictators started this war in the first place.

    Arriving in June, questions

Where is the best resource for finding apartments? Argentines that live in BA or looking in the local papers (if you know spanish). Consider if you were in your hometown of wherever you're from and someone asked you the same question. If you can afford to pay someone else to look for you...

    tap water

I drank it right out of the tap and didn't have any digestive or health problems. It tastes pretty good considering it's coming out of a muddy river filled with god knows what. Most residents told me not to drink it without boiling first though, which is one of the reasons they drink so much...

FYI - cab fare up 20% from today

I suspect the increase is due to higher prices with natural gas, which is what most taxis use for fuel. Someone needs to start up a rickshaw (sp?) business in the city. Like they do in asian cities.... it's good exercise and doesn't pollute.

    Will the expat invasion end?

Will the invasion end? I don't think it'll ever end but I wouldn't be surprised if there is a slowdown with American travelers due to the falling U.S. dollar. Other currencies are doing well though, so it would just change the demographic. Inflation in Argentina is also a major problem and...

    Lunfardo: Argentine Slang For Foreigners

Oh my.... that woman (the host) is beautiful. :) Nice sites and I'll have to check it out a bit. Video quality is great. For some reason, the links got messed up when you posted them. It adds the baexpats link to the start. So they should be scoopingargentina and argentinepost.

    the ba test

Hi Hends, and welcome to the forum. It sounds like you've got the right idea about a few things. Language (spanish) is important and fun to learn once you get past the initial stages. There's a variety of ways to meet new people in BA. One way is through expat dinners and events arranged...

    BAexpats and Freedom of Speech

I agree with Fishface, that this forum is private property and we are just visitors and subject to whatever rules they want to impose. I've never paid a cent into this forum and there must be someone, somewhere paying the costs. It's their sandbox. I've been posting on this forum for about 2...

Re: Paraguay - tips & what to do and not to do

I think their main complaint is it was raining the whole time and they stopped in a border town called Ciudad del Este and they kept saying they didn't feel safe there. I met up with them in Brazil and we got into a long conversation about road conditions in Bolivia/Paraguay. Long story...

    Social Genocide - Argentine movie

It's a full two hour movie. Something you'd have to download and watch on a computer or rent/buy on DVD. Well worth watching just to understand why Argentina got into such a mess despite being one of the wealthiest countries at one time. There's also a follow up movie post-crash called "the...

    Argentina elects Fernandez

From a Bloomberg article. She really didn't have to work very hard to win. "Fernandez gave few details during the campaign about how she will manage the country's economy, never holding a news conference or issuing a platform." I'd also appreciate it if someone could explain "Argentine...

    Social Genocide - Argentine movie

I watched this documentary (from 2004) and thought I'd pass it on to anyone interested in the buildup and aftermath of the Argentine debt crisis. It's also known by the spanish name Memoria del saqueo and is spanish with english subtitles. If you use bittorent, here's a quick .av]search result...

Living in Buenos Aires versus Santiago - pros and cons

The weather was fine when I was there. Even the air pollution in Santiago wasn't that bad although I couldn't see the mountains from the lookout over the city. Suggestions? I suppose I'd stay in Valparaiso and commute to Vin Del Mar since it's a quick, cheap trip. Another this is to be very...
