What do you spend a month in Argentina?

To live in BsAs on a basic level cost me about 700 pesos a month but that doesn't include "entertainment", which will boost it up to 1000 a month. This was by living at a Hostel paying a monthly rate, cooking my own food, washing my own clothes and using public transit. It was a nice place...

    NHL play-offs

Yes. At the Alamo Bar (which I've mentioned a few times in this forum). A link with a review and the address. http://www.buenostours.com/shoeless-joes-el-alamo-bar They use "slingbox" and can get almost any sporting game you can ask for. The owner is a Detroit fan, so I suspect the games...

    All through the night?

Argentine dinner starts at 9 pm for early birds but 10 pm is the regular time for most people to show up at restaurants. Show up at 9:30 pm and you can choose the table you want. Show up at 10 pm and you may be waiting at the door. Regarding nightlife.... it's going on every night and most...

    ...an apology

I find all of this "hater" stuff quite amusing and fully encourage [censored] to keep an eye on all of us and even join in under a fake username. I've always thought of this forum as a fun place to chat about BA and Argentina without realizing it's importance on the world stage. jaja. To be...

    Why are Argentines so arrogant???

I'm not sure if Argentines are so much arrogant as encouraged to be PROUD of their country and eager to show that pride. My guess is that this attitude is something that's being taught to them at an early age and reinforced over time as there's an odd way in which so many people in different...

why do argentines hiss when they call for service

This is common in Brazil and I suspect that's where it comes from. Haven't seen it happening much in other parts of Argentina outside of BsAs. It drove me nuts in Brazil how everyone from Bus drivers to store clerks would hiss to get your attention or someone elses. It's not so much a hiss...

Very early morning flight - 86 bus to airport

I took the Direct Bus to Ezeiza airport with Manuel Tienda Leon (www.tiendaleon.com) and that was good although it cost me 27 pesos. Still cheaper than a taxi and faster than a transit Bus which takes up to 2 hours.

Re: Slingbox - anyone have it?

I used to go watch hockey games at the Alamo bar where they use the slingbox. Seemed to work okay but the quality is degraded and signal loss is common. Impressive though.

    question about rent

Do you really need an apartment? A cheaper option is to get a furnished Pension, or boarding house situation. I had a nice one in Rosario. My own small room, private bath with shower and shared kitchen. 380 pesos a month (which is considered expensive). I've heard you can get a bed in a...

Where are the beaches in BA?

Haha. You'll now discover why everyone goes away somewhere else for some sun. However, in BA I did find a beach of sorts in the nature preserve near Puerto Madero. There's some rocky beaches looking out on the lovely brown waters of the river. You can also watch ships go by and old guys...

    Buenos Aires shocking accident rate

I've been witness to a few bad accidents as well. Not a surprise when you consider that BA is rated as one of the most congested cities in the world for traffic. The quality of the cars, trucks and Buses adds to the problem. Regarding bribes.... I was told by an Argentine friend to always...

    VISA problem at ATM's

One trick I learned in Brazil is to not choose the english option on the ATM. Using the english option, it would either limit what I could get or reject me but using the native language option, it went through.

Getting a new 90 day tourist visa.

I just went to Santiago from Mendoza last week and it wasn't a hassle but I was nervous about it. My visa was expired and didn't know if I'd be able to pay the fine at the immigration centre up in the mountains. Turns out the guy just looked at my passport then asked if I had a "paper". I...

    ATMs and wiring money

My bank accounts in Canada use the Plus system and it's one of the most common ones on ATM's here. Although my withdrawls are free on my Card if I use it in Canada, they charge me an international fee per transaction which is about $5. Certainly worth withdrawing money from different banks...

    Americans & psychoanalysis

bf4 quote: "Here you are mixing apples and oranges" I think you're trying to say "here you're comparing apples to oranges". The idea is that they're both fruit, but not the same. Mixing apples and oranges would be... crazy! Not that I'm saying you're crazy or you need psychoanalysis but...

    Pancake breakfast?

I thought this thread was going to be about a pancake breakfast, where you have big griddle and charge money for pancakes, bacon, sausages, eggs, hashbrowns etc... It's normally done as a charity event for hockey teams or fundraising to buy more snow removal equipment. If you have one, I'll...
