What are Christmas Day & New Year's Day like here in BA? What's open and closed?

The racetrack in San Isidro is open on the 25th and they have a very nice restaurant in the clubhouse. Wagering is not mandatory. Might be a fun time with a group. Call for menu items and hours of op. In the spirit of Las vegas--"We never close"--EL Establo parilla has been open on all...

    25th mediodia restaurants?

Needless to say mid-day on the 25th, as opposed to after 6pm, is a tough call. For a few years I've gone to El Establo, a parilla with an extensive menu, corner of San Martin and Paraguay on the 24th and 25th. Call, of course, for hours of op. Kansas might be anothe possibility.

Watching the Belmont at the Hipodromo!

There is not a casino at hipo San Isidro nor is there any restriction to buying hard beverages during the races. There is no wager offered at any of the 3 largest tracks in Argentina that requires a BASE bet over 5 pesos.

Watching the Belmont at the Hipodromo!

The Belmont is not part of the program as was the Preakness. Preakness was held on a live racing day at Hipo San Isidro, not Palermo. No mention of the Belmont on the online programs. Liquor served after the last race in the casino downstairs.

Watching the Belmont at the Hipodromo!

The Preakness was shown live at the track on Sat. at Hipo San Isidro. In fact it was part of the program as race #13. The Belmont? Call and ask or wait for the programs to hit the street.

Where to watch the Kentucky Derby? Any of you from Louisville?

The tracks here will probably simulcast the Derby as they do for a few of the Breeders Cup races. Saturday is usually live at San Isidro but Palermo 'casts their races.

    Expatriates watching the Super Bowl?

El Alamo will be jammed packed. Bring your patience. Last year I was there and at halftime walked over to Bullers Microbrewery in Recoleta where I watched the game in peace and comfort with no problems getting served. The Bullers downtown on Paraguay is closed Sunday.

    Great Dinner

I, too, am a fan of El Establo, but when in the Recoleta area my choice of a good parilla is El Yugo on Ayacucho between Las Heras and Vicente Lopez. Similar high quality beef and pretty decent salad bar. Actually a few pesos less than its micro-center cousin.Open at 8PM and in the past closed...

    Christmas in BsAs

Unfortunately there is a transportation issue. Taxis stop doing business about 10 pm, maybe a bit earlier. In a conversation today with the concierge at Marriott's Plaza I was told that guests are advised to venture no more than a few blocks for dinner. Upshot--find something close enough to...

    NY Mets & Giants

El Alamo is as much a restaurant as a bar on the 1100 block of Uruguay. Yes options for watching your favorite US baseball teams are limited to this establishment. The bartenders are accommodating. Just ask if you want to see a game. The bit about gold digging females ?-?--not my experience at all.
