Using argentine bank visa in the US

yeah...that's how most argentines that have to travel for business etc (and can't get hold of enough currency through afip) do things. The only real issues with it are that a) most argentine credit cards don't have great limits, so financing an entire trip using just a visa could be tough b)...

    International Child Custody

If there is one thing that Latin America is really strict about, it's not letting children leave the country without legal consent from BOTH parents. I have a friend in Brazil who came down here on a family holiday to Bariloche. The father arrived a few days earlier for business reasons and when...

    advice on clothing

Wait until you go to the UK to get everything...the prices will be much cheaper, the quality much better and the selection much greater. If you're going soon, you'll have plenty of time to stock up on winter clothes once you get there before it becomes very cold...and shops will now be getting...

    Swiss Medical

It depends on your age. I signed up for Swiss Medical when I was 26 and paid about 280 pesos per month (this was 5 years ago) for the cheapest plan. The plan was pretty thorough but because it was the cheaper option, I had to pay a 25-40 peso premium every time I saw a dr. I believe that the...

1 week in, kids are struggling

I guess from Victoria, that your husband is working at San Andres. I went to the university about ten years ago and lasted about a month living nearby in Victoria so I think you've done the right thing by heading into the city. I actually think that the area in which you are currently living...

Looking for CCNA job, computer networking

He might want to check out large computer companies such as IBM, HP, etc as they'd probably be the only ones willing to sponsor a visa. Even so, I heard a lot of companies (including the IT industry) are now pulling out of Argentina or stopping any new hires here (preferring to hire new staff in...

What are some hard to find teas and spices in bsas??

A few months ago, I bought a kilo tin of Colmans Mustard powder in barrio chino. I think its the kind of product that only gets imported in once or twice a year though, as I haven't seen it on shelves for ages. I've never seen that brand of tea here (only local brands and a pitiful selection of...

    Cashmere sweaters

I'd be interested to see what you find out as I find it really difficult to come across good-quality jumpers here... The last time I went to one of those cashmere shops on Florida (several years ago), I tried on a jumper and it felt NOTHING like real cashmere and was actually a bit itchy.

Pesos to dollars for businesses in Argentina

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the legal purchase of dollars has now been completely prohibited. I certainly don't know anyone who is able to do it. I was also under the impression that people were no longer able to open dollar accounts or to transfer peso savings into dollar accounts.

Soon-to-be BA expat with some concerns...

Found it. Ok: I think that the short-term/new arrivals expat community is more active. I guess they're more interested in going to meet-ups, learning Spanish, hitting up expat bars, etc. I find that longer-term expats tend to have more limited circles mainly based on interests, hobbies, etc...

    What's the job market like?

I agree with the other posters that the market in which you are looking to work here is already pretty saturated. I cannot imagine that it would be any easier for you to find work here than in Europe and salaries are diabolical given the cost of living. You would have the additional problem of...

New Family visa rulings in the UK

Immigration lawyers are expecting them to be contested on the grounds of violating the human right to a family life... but until that happens (and assuming that the laws will even then be modified accordingly) a lot of legitimate couples will be stuck...in Argentina!!!!

New Family visa rulings in the UK

Yeah, the documentation is very confusing but the applicant's past income is only counted if the applicant is currently working in the UK. In the case of a couple returning to the UK, only the partner's salaried income overseas is counted (page 11, towards the end of the page) - the applicant's...
