    Senora Kirchner-Fernandez' lastest

I'm largely sympathetic with what I understand to be Pericles's views, but admiration for a pacific Argentina would be misplaced. Several (just talk to a Paraguayan, for example). Most recently, and in our own lifetimes, British territory in the Falklands. (We won't even talk about a...

    Banking for ex-pats

I believe that you can. Both my biggish credit union in Washington, D.C., and my tiny little bank in rural New England offer the service freely.

The Government just reversed gas and electricity increases

That practice comes from underlying dissatisfaction with the unchanging situation. And voting against whoever's in power certainly beats violent revolution. (Sadly, though, the parties that come into office aren't much different from those that leave it.)

Expo at La Rural: CAMINOS y SABORES (Aug 13th-16th)

Regrettably, I return to Bs.As. after this exposition and have yet to persuade a cousin to go in my stead (no cracks about Argentine tastes, thanks). So, Boney, would you be so kind as to post an appraisal after you've seen and tasted it?

    Another pickpocket scam ...

Of course, you needn't "blend in". Neither need you wear running shorts (in the city!), Nikes (sneakers, right?), or a backpack (on a grown man, in the city!) in order to exercise. But, again, the choice is yours, as are the concommitant risks. Edit: Let me soften this a bit: Joe, all who...

Obamacare: Say goodbye to Grandma and the grandkids!

An acquaintance who sits on the Council of Economic Advisors pithily states (at least in private conversation) that America has become a first-world country based on third-world economics. Even the most essential factors needed to sustain genuine economic development now are lacking: look at...

Obamacare: Say goodbye to Grandma and the grandkids!

Goodness, Dudester! It really sounds as though you don't like America. Yet you're still there . . . could it be to get more money?

Obamacare: Say goodbye to Grandma and the grandkids!

Now you've got it, Steve. And the rich, of course, are those who earn more money than we do (except, of course, when we boast over drinks about how much we clever folk have got). Because the purpose of life is simply working one's material advantage, isn't it?

    Missing Molars

Precautionary removal of all four wisdom teeth is common. As for why it's advocated, you'd have to ask a dentist -- I don't know.

Is the Argentine Economy Going to Collapse?

When I first heard that the government of Argentina, still a "developed" (if crumbling) state, levied taxes on its own exports, I actually doubted that I was as competent in Spanish as I had thought. Years later, I'm still amazed that anyone other than a shameless con artist or a fool would...

How much are your ´expensas ´?

Might there be a typographical error in this figure, "jez"? Just twenty-five pesos a month?

Obamacare: Say goodbye to Grandma and the grandkids!

Steve-in-Buenos, you cannot win this fight and may as well concede as much now. You've attempted an argument from principle -- whether principles that others accept as their own or not is immaterial -- but are being met not with reasoning from other principles (save from BigBad) but with the...

    Another pickpocket scam ...

Yes, you had everything to mark you as "tourist"! Perhaps I should no longer be surprised that some folk insist on advertising.

Obamacare: Say goodbye to Grandma and the grandkids!

The Republicans have always been the "big tent" party, embracing a very wide spectrum of thought; so I'm not surprised. I'd guess that many an American in Buenos Aires would be, though.

    Arriving in Oct/Nov

Not if you're teaching as a friend or unpaid volunteer. But if you were to teach English for pay, clearly you'd be working, wouldn't you? And you'd then need a visa granting you permission to work within Argentina. As a foreigner lacking official permission to work in Argentina, to work...

    Alterations Seamstress Tailor

Two excellent tailors are Carbone Hnos. (on 25 de Mayo, in "La City") and Cheverny (next to the Brazilian embassy and opposite the French). Each will do a fine job altering men's clothing, too, though not inexpensively.

Congrats! You'll enjoy (if you haven't already) the little restaurant at the club, too. I think that GyE has reciprocal privileges with the Jockey in Bs.As., which is well worth a visit when you're in town.

    Canada Day!

I'm not a Canadian, but I'm certain that the Canadian embassy could have told you of celebrations throughout the city and at the embassy itself.

Chile Tourist Fee if you're Just Stopping Over?

This might depend upon your definition of "stop-over". If by that you mean that you'll spend some hours in the airport between flights, you needn't pay the fee. If, instead, you expect to spend those hours sightseeing, you'll of course go through immigration and will have to pay the fee.
