The latest news from german Newspapers is that it may comes from vegetable sprouts, eaten raw in salads. Don´t worry about the pickles, they are not raw! The E.coli dies at 70°C, so all cooked food is save.

    Creme fraiche

There are some products that are very similar to crème fraiche. Look for crema casan or so, you find it in all supermarkets. It is like a mild sour cream. But I never got Buttermilk here. When I bake Muffins I use yogurt natural with some milk instead of Buttermilk.

    For those thinking of coming

By comparing the prices to the US you should not forget that the prices of consuming products are very cheap in the US compared to the rest of the world, especially Europe. I am German and for me clothes are still cheaper here in BA, especially sports brands like Nike etc. In the big European...

Godiva, Ritter Sport and other chocolates

Ritter Sport you can find in a lot of supermarkets, but not always, sometimes they get it and sometimes there are months without any. The prices are very high. Ritter Sport e.g. is a very cheap chocolate in germany, 100 g is about 80 Cents, here it is 15 pesos. Lindt is about 30 pesos, which is...

    skim milk available in BsAs???

There are so many things you (we all) have to worry about, I guess the milk is one of the smallest problems. If you think about all this you can only stop eating. I don´t mean that we have to ignore that, I mean these problems can only be solved when we change the system of this world, where...

    skim milk available in BsAs???

(Unfortunately for me) there is more fatfree milk in Argentina than normal one. The fatest is 3%, which is even reduced in fat. In Europe I used to drink 3,8% which is I think the natural version. So for you there will be no problem! Also cheese and other milkproducts are offered in a fat...

Argentina on the cusp of hyperinflation

Sorry, if "ignorant" means uninformed you are right! That was my mistake. In german it means that somebody knows all but does not care. About the information: That was a question of me. I ask myself if the average voter reads other news than the propaganda made by the government. Just whatch the...

Argentina on the cusp of hyperinflation

I think that´s all more complex, you also have to see the history of this country. A lot of people see that with the Kirchners everything had become better. But, this government came at a time when everything in this country was down, so maybe everybody would have been able to lead Argentina to...

    hotel suggestion for Montevideo

Hotel Lon Angeles is the cheapest I know, very centraly located. But it is not a nice place! It is more or less clean, but that is all. Very old furniture, no luxury. There are also some hostels in the old town that look quite nice from outside, but I don´t know them. I most times book my...

    Change in expat attitudes?

Montevideo cleaner???? Maybe, but this place changes a lot during the high season. In December they start to clean the city and the beaches. And to compare the costs of living you should not only look at the food. In Europe and I guess in the US,too food in supermarkets is cheap and the quality...

Oh Argentina. The art of the rip-off

I asked at a lot of opticas before I ordered new glasses. Maybe you know the very famous Pförtner, a former german optica. There, the prices where exactly double for the same glasses, same brand etc. So you see, it is a free market and you have to compare the prices before. It is the same with...

prices on my street went up 20% this week

I worry about the social situation in this country. For me the prices are still cheaper or almost the same compared to Europe. But for the people here living on peso income it is worse. If inflation goes on like this it will not lead to anything good. Hyperinflation is something we do not need...
