    Resident flight prices

Its actually not the silly of a law if you think about it. The average Argentine could never afford to travel by plane within the country without the subsidies. This is one of the few Argentine quirks that I actually agree with. There are a lot of deserving people who benefit from this measure...

Would you trust a 'taxi' to Ezeiza you found on Mercado Libre for $100 pesos?

Elpanada, you are underestimating how far people will go to rob someone here. People create fake ML accounts all the time to rob someone. The police don't give a damn and they know it. Once someone steals your belongings, its gone, there is no getting it back and the thief knows he won't get...

    Virgin Mobile coming to Argentina

I'll believe it when I see it. I've heard that they are a very good company, but I don't see how they will be able to offer a better price in this country, which is anti-anything-that-is-not-from-Argentina, and that will include Virgin Mobile. I think that Cristina will scare them away long...

Would you trust a 'taxi' to Ezeiza you found on Mercado Libre for $100 pesos?

Seconded. No reviews is not a good thing on ML.

Would you trust a 'taxi' to Ezeiza you found on Mercado Libre for $100 pesos?

The ad says that it is a Chevrolet wagon, not a VW...and he is not with a radio taxi company, and from experience, those are the ones that you usually need to watch out for. But really, I have no clue. Personally, I would not do it. I prefer to call a car from a trusted remise company to take...

    Resident flight prices

My wife's cousin got the resident price when going to Tierra del Fuego, and when the airlines found out, they alerted the local authorities, and he was not allowed to leave for 6 months until he finished the paperwork to become a resident in Tierra del Fuego. If he wanted to leave before that he...

    Dentist Recommendations?

Two years of living here and avoiding the dentist has caught up with me. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good dental office for getting a cleaning and a cavity filled who is not to to expensive? English is not required.

    Housing near Lincoln School?

There are two types of rentals in Argentina. There are the temporary, furnished apartments, which are short term. And then there are the normal, two year contract to rent an unfurnished house or apartment. To get a 2 year contact, you will have to be able to get a garantia, which is basically a...

    Flood map

My point was, the instead of having the entire world underwater, as we are sometimes led to believe, that most of the land on earth won't change. Don't expect me to be upset that cities of steel and concrete might go underwater. People can move and will move away from the sea if they have to...

    Housing near Lincoln School?

You could also take the train and then walk to the school after getting off at the La Lucila station. Did that the other while visiting a friend and it only took 15 minutes and that was with the heat, heavy backpack, and pushing a baby stroller.

    Flood map

If anything, looking at this map makes me much less worried. Everyone likes to make you think that if Antartica melts then EVERYTHING will be under water, but its really not even close.

    Housing near Lincoln School?

You cannot be within the city limits and be within walking distance to the school. Its about 5 miles out of the city. Its possible that you could find some temporary rentals there, but its unlikely, especially for a family of five. If you are going to be here for 2 years, its possible that you...

    Eye glasses prices in BA

Hmmm, I am sensing that some of these expats have been ripped off on their glasses down here. I suspect that you could find your glasses for under 100 dollars here. I've gotten the same type of glasses that you described, and I only paid cost (wife's uncle owns an optica) at about 150 pesos...

Argentine expats raving and ranting - where?

What Argentina are you living in?? People here go out of their way to try to rip me off, whether it is a taxi driver who assumes I don't know where I am going so he take a looooong detour to get to my location, or the local carniceria or verduleria ripping us off by adding a few pesos to...

    boludo and pelotudo

From my experience, boludo is an affectionate way of calling your friend a dummy. Pelotudo is what you call the taxi driver who "accidentally" makes a wrong turn that ends up costing you 10 pesos extra.

    Remis service

It would be cheaper to rent a car and drive yourself there. Thats going to be well over 1000 pesos for a remise.

    Apartments BA: anyone used them?

All of the properties are getting more expensive. Now that the subsidies are being taken away, the owners are using that as an excuse to raise their rates by hundreds of dollars.
