Messi wants to retire in Barcelona

I just read that Messi hopes to finish his career in Barcelona, not Argentina. http://www.buenosairesherald.com/article/98360/i-want-to-retire-in-barcelona-says-messi I find it a little humorous that he is already thinking about retirement! He's a really young player. Oh to be a star athlete!

    Thoughts on Evita Peron

I feel like Evita Peron is either worshipped or hated by Argentines. I've read up on it a decent amount and I can understand why. Do you expats (or natives on this board) have any thoughts? Since CFK seems to sometimes aim to achieve the fame of and love Evita had, this topic has been fresh on...

What do you love about BA?

I have as many days of pure frustration and homesickness as the rest of you I'm sure, but some days I am just so in love with this place. Here are some of my random things I love: 1. The public transportation. I refuse to accept too harsh of criticism about the public tranist here. It is...

    Living Situations in BA

I know in Argentine culture it is much more common to live at home with your parents for a longer period of time, but I'm curious to see how expats compare with their living situations.

    Skaters in BA?

Are there any Skaters here? I used to skate back in the day but I was never very good, so I gave it up. I still really enjoy shop talk and watching people who are much more talented than I. I usually just hang around the halfpipe near bosques de palermo, are there any other places?

    Dating ettiquette?

I know Machismo is dominant here, but I haven't quite adjusted. Is a man expected to always pay for everything, including minor things like bus fare when dating an Argentine girl? Also, with the whole Sundays are for family thing, how soon should you expect to meet the family?

    What's a good price for a dinner?

I feel like tourists, students, long-term vacationers ans expats all have a very different idea of what is an affordable or decently priced meal. I am curious, how much would you consider worth it for a good meal?

Plastic Surgery in Argentina - Too much?

I know Argentina has one of the highest rates of cosmetic surgery in the world. I find that the women look absolutely gorgeous for a short while then age terribly and get creepy plastic surgery. I mean, just look at Cristina! I am not a woman so I guess I don't have a much weight in this...

    Cultural differences you actually like

I know cultural differences can be weird at first and some things you just never get used to but I find there are certain cultural differences in Argentina that I rather enjoy. I like that meals are meant to be enjoyed, even if that means a 2+ hour lunch break. No more eating on the run. I...

Is Argentina a safe country for tourists?

Buenos Aires is like any other big city. There are shady parts to avoid and pickpockets/muggers to be aware of. However, overall I think it is fairly safe as long as you are smart about what you carry and keeping your eyes open.

    Thoughts on the election?

I am curious - did anyone follow the election/vote and how do you feel about it? I know a lot of my Argentine friends were pretty ticked off about Macri being elected, though they were not surprised.

    Political Ads in Argentina

Has anyone noticed that political ads in Argentina never actually say anything? No one ever mentioned a cause, belief or anything they intend to fight for. The tag lines are always something like "Better with Candidate" "A Better Argentina" "A safer Argentina" Do any of these politicians ever...
