    Robbed by two drug junkies

yeah, my post was tongue in cheek. It's seriously not worth fighting back. The situation described where you've only got one guy who is clearly worse for wear is possibly one time you might get away with it. Far better to leave home with the absolute minimum money and put it down to experience...

    TSA Approved Locks

...oh and TSA approved locks mean security teams in the US have skeleton keys that can open them without breaking them. But, here's the glitch, don't think for an instant that customs/baggage handlers in other countries don't have copies of the exact same keys. It's a cute system but...

Heads up on a (probable) apartment scam

to be fair, that's exactly how bytargentina work and they are, I think, the largest apartment agency in town. And have an excellent reputation. They do not do viewings and they also require pretty big down payment, even if you are abroad when you confirm.

    Homeowner's insurance - worth it?

having insurance presumes that the insurance company will pay out when the time comes. Such a presumption is extremely unwise here. My gf's mother was involved in a crash where someone just drove into her when she was parked. That was two years ago, the insurance company simply refuses to pay...

    Crongresswoman Shot: AZ

what worries me about palin though is her seemingly keen desire to polarise. She had 3-4 days to think about her reaction to the AZ situation and then came out and gave what even some on the right consider to have been an inflammatory interview. I worry that she sees herself already as the...

Where can I get the Guardian Weekly?

the guardian is a centre/left paper in europe, which I know puts it about 3 blocks to the left of trotsky in the States. In fact, many "old Labour" voters in the UK consider the Guardian to have totally sold out in the last decade or so.

    Crongresswoman Shot: AZ

I hope that wasn't directed at me...I was very clear that my real objection to the speech was, as is pretty much standard fare in US politicians' speeches in the last 20 years, the obsession with droning on about religion.

    Crongresswoman Shot: AZ

I couldn't believe how well Obama's speech was received. Half an hour of saying nothing of any real substance and talking about the man-in-the-clouds. The US is in deep deep trouble if that's the best the head of state has to offer at this time. OK, perhaps it wasn't the time nor the place, but...

Buenos Aires - not for the faint hearted

make a website/blog about her...seriously, do it! We'll all spread the word and add comments to it. This can be your "Florencia Dade" moment.

    sugar, oh lordy, lordy

doesn't giving very young children/babies things like DDL hardwire them for their future? Isn't it more likely someone will get diabetes, etc if they've consumed a lot of sugar at a young age? Or am I making that up?

    Dead Birds and Earthquakes

BTW, the idea that the "mayan calendar ends in 2012" (if that even had the most infinitesimal relevance anyway!) is downright false. It's the equivalent of expecting the world to end every December 31st because, you know, "that's when our calendar ends, innit?". Those that propagate such...

go and look up mercosur on wiki/google. same in the EU. Italians and Greeks and Poles can move freely around the EU and look for work, Ukrainians can't. Way of the world.
