    Argentine Mysteries

omg -- you have one AWESOMELY AWESOME observation I never noticed before: escalators in the subways always go down. yes yes yes! I never realized that but you're totally right. Yes it is the exact opposite of common sense: does GRAVITY make walking down easier -- and gravity isn't exactly a...

    Best Italian Food?

The claaaaaaaassic is Guido's. Cabello just off of Republica de la India, I believe. Old-school style. Awesome service (by Argie standards at least). They just bring out lots and lots and lots of plates and stuff you. You enter into a different world. Two thumbs up.

    The Mule Pool

@BradlyHale -- Thanks for the kind words about my reaching out (I think the only way to build anything is one person at a time, one by one... I'm probably naive in that but it's my approach - plus it's fun to meet new people! Hahaha). On your advice: thanks for the advice, it's excellent. We've...

    Fluoride in the water?

Yes yes yes! I would soooo pay for that! Once I was walking by the one on Cordoba, the door was open, so I just walked in - they were having like some open house - it was magnificent inside! The original machinery was all exposed (still there!) and the funniest part.... all the dials and knobs...

    Fluoride in the water?

Separate-but-distantly-related: I think the early 20th/late 19th century Argie water buildings are among the most beautiful buildings anywhere in South America, possibly anywhere in the world. I often want to climb over the fence of that one on Alcorta... and that one on Cordoba is a treasure...

    The Mule Pool

Hey Ben -- Yup, I'm the founder of it, so I'm going to chime in now - as you predicted. Note: I'm biased in this post because I'm, well, the founder :) Now, on to your three questions.... #1 -- I can't answer that since, although I've used it, I'm clearly not objective ;) We're very small and...

    Day trips (that aren't Tigre...)

It's a 3-hour drive (so a very long day, or maybe an overnight trip - I usually stay over there just on a Sat night?) but Rosario is AMAZING. I've thought about moving there more than once. It has a lot of the best of BA (a true, urban city, and all of the culture, life that entails), without...

    Job Offer in Buenos Aires

This is an excellent starting salary for a recent college graduate *for a local*. You definitely can live, enjoy living and going out on that salary. However, you won't be going out to the expensive luxury places foreigners go to, you won't be saving any money either. There are two universes in...

Preexisting Conditions and OSDE or any other Insurance Carrier

When I signed up for OSDE, it was just filling out a form. It got to a question about my eyes and I asked the gentlemen working there helping me fill out the form if I should mention that I once had minor eye surgery and he said "no, no"....! So the employees even encourage you to make your past...

    Posting electronics etc to Argentina

Haha notebook.fix, I like your suggestion to find a mule! You can find a mule here: www.themulepool.com - the site is dedicated to matching people in Argentina with Mules. Warning: I am the co-founder of the site so the above is not an objective opinion in any way! :)

What's your Favorite (and Positive) "Only in Argentina" story?

Oh, another positive-only-in-Argentina type experience: those stories taxi drivers here tell. HYSTERICAL. I'm going to start another thread in a few days where we can share some of those stories. Yeeees! Argie taxi drivers are awesome and sooo funny... at least when they're not driving us on...
