Recoleta . Zona Liberada - Entraderas

Hey, I got married in Open Door. It definitely exists.

Recoleta . Zona Liberada - Entraderas

Perhaps the more appropriate question is "do you feel safer or less safe in BA than you did 1-2 years ago?" or "Do you feel safer in BA than whatever other city you want to compare?" I think that the issue (statistics aside) is that many people that live here now have the...

US Citizenship for Baby question - Help!

Wow, Nikad, sounds like a real bummer. We went through this 2 years ago when our second son was born here in Argentina (our first son was born in the U.S.). I am a U.S. citizen (by birth) and my wife is Argentine. I needed all the same documentation "proving" that I had lived in the U.S. for...

Best part of city to live with a family?

I would also suggest that you might consider living outside of the city. We live in Pilar, and for myself and our family (7 year old and 3 year old) the advantages far outweigh the hassle of the daily commute into the city.

    The End of Closed Neighborhoods?

Nico, I didn't mean to say that Cristina is an idiot, although it sure is easy to say that, as you did in a recent post about the Argentine economy "If there exists a pictorial dictionary, I'm sure they define "idiot" with Cristina's face next to it." For someone to reach the presidency of a...

    The End of Closed Neighborhoods?

El Queso, please, you give them far to much credit, they are simply babbling clowns, and perhaps someone who has a bit more smarts has told them to stop babbling. Honestly, if I thought that there was any possibility of this ("opening" barrio cerrados) happening, I for one, would be extremely...

    The End of Closed Neighborhoods?

El Queso, sorry I can not remember where I read/saw that "the government was not going to pursue this", but I was/am aware of Agustin Rossi's position and that Julio Alak basically said "sounds good to me". But using your criteria (that is perfectly logical) one would not consider Aníbel...

    The End of Closed Neighborhoods?

I read somewhere the day after the initial story broke that the government was not going to consider this. Seems like it was another rogue official, sort of like Aníbel Fernandez when he said about 2 months ago that "the government is going to control the blue dollar". I think it would be...

Significant news about peso exchange rate

I believe that it is not only "small" casas de cambio that operate in the parallel market. If this government's actions/effects weren't so grave, it would be comical. Anyone that is not familiar with Argentina could not believe the headlines in a number of papers last Saturday that read more or...

Significant news about peso exchange rate

My guy (gal) said 5.92 about 10:00 AM and had dropped to 5.84 at noon. Not sure how the government can “control” an “illegal” activity (or at least outside of the Tax Authority). But as all Argentines have told me when I said “I just don’t understand this”, neither do they, nor the Government...

Good towns to live in outside of BsAs

We live in a barrio cerrado in Pilar and thoroughly enjoy, among other things, the “green grass, tranquility, etc”. We are also only 4 km from shopping movie theaters, etc. Of course it depends on what you are looking for. For me and my family, it is great.

Going rate for a house cleaner

The other day I was sitting in a sidewalk café watching a “street performer”. At each red light cycle he entered the intersection, did his routine (pretending to be an old man falling, and then jumping up and dancing) and then collected money from the people in the cars waiting at the red light...

How to convert a Weber grill for Argentina

We brought a gas grill form the U.S. and thought about converting it to natural gas, but finally decided not to. So, because the connections are different on the propane tanks here than in the U.S., we needed to purchase the regulator/connector at a hardware store and have a plumber/”gasista”...

    Buying an apartment off plan

There is lots of good information here from several posters including DavidGlen77. However the statement “…decided to buy what's called a "fideocomiso at cost" in Caballito. That's where they sell you the apartment before the building is constructed "de pozo" and you get it at a much lower cost...

Help with info on shared container move to the US

I know you are talking about moving from Argentina to the U.S., but when we moved from the U.S. to Argentina, we used a U.S. based international moving company (Wheaton) who organized the container and shipping with Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) and then sub-contracted local movers in the...
