    Deteriorating passenger trains

I remember that under Duhalde's governorship trains were revived in the provincia under the name Ferrobaires which were run by the province. Then under the Kirchners (I think CFK) they were renationalised.

    Deteriorating passenger trains

Doesn't the federal government issue subsidies to the provinces that they in turn distribute? If so, a reduction in these subsidies means a reduction in funds directed at maintenance.

    Deteriorating passenger trains

Yes of course you are right. Speaking of the Mitsubishi cars (incidentally, I rode on them decades ago when they were operating on the Marinouchi line in Tokyo) when I recently rode them I sat down and crashed into a springless seat. It is easily 60 years or more since the seats were upgraded...

    Deteriorating passenger trains

That's a ridiculous comment. Do you think you can compare Argentina to Bangladesh? Let's not get into the business of calling Argentina a third world country. Even if that is your view, people in 'third woirld countries' deserve safe and clean transport. Did you even bother to read the...

    A Presidential Debate Party?

I hope people are more concerned about Argentina.

    Deteriorating passenger trains

Travelling twice this winter from Constitucion to Pinamar by train I noted how much older and worn out the Chinese equipment which I believe was bought by Macri has started to look. To get to Pinamar you have to change trains at Guido. There are a lot of employees both there and at Pinamar who...

    Deteriorating passenger trains

I overheard a restaurant employee saying that her commute to her Recoleta job takes two and a half hours each way. Now she has to contend with reduced service, more crowded trains, higher fares and less safety...

    Dollar Blue exchange rate movement?

I guess you can try to renegotiate but the seller has no obligation to comply.

    Price of meat will skyrocket

There were long queues in the USSR. No matter what the rate is (controlled or free market) people will have to sell or buy.

    Price of meat will skyrocket

The exchange rate is being 'controlled'? What happened to free market capitalism? Sounds 'socialist' to me.

Looking for a job as an English teacher

The only way to survive as a teacher is to find a position in a bilingual school teaching a subject (not English as a Second Language). You will get a 13 month salary, paid holidays, health insurance and if you are hired from overseas (normally the UK) free housing. Of course visa sponsorship...

Looking for a job as an English teacher

A bilingual school can sponsor you but if you have no teaching experience you won't be considered. At this time with the economy in such a crisis I imagine bilingual schools have cut back on hiring from abroad (primarily from the UK). I suppose you could get a student visa if you want to study...

Looking for a job as an English teacher

You won't be able to survive as a teacher of English. Can you teach a subject in a high school? There are many bilingual schools that may consider you - and they will sponsor you for a visa.

Food prices are amongst the highest of the planet

I agree but I have met a few who have adapted to the real Argentina. I knew a woman who married an Argentine. They had a child. The father refused to allow the child to leave Argentina. The mother wanted to go back to the US but she prioritised the child's welfare. To do so she had to find...

Food prices are amongst the highest of the planet

You are living like an Argentine, not an expat. Congratulations! Your income is more than most people receive here; you have a comfortable home, you eat healthy food. Expats can learn a lot from you.

Taxi rates. Am I being scammed?

As a socialist you should be travelling with the proletariat in colectivos. Those socialist drivers are being cruelly exploited by the self-indulgent bourgoisie who think themselves too good to travel with the underclass.

Taxi rates. Am I being scammed?

Since when are taxis for socialist hippies! Sounds bourgeois to me.

Taxi rates. Am I being scammed?

Combis have limited service. Buses take forever and may not take you close to where you want in the provincia. I tried the train recently on a weekend. A connection was needed. I had to wait ninety minutes for the connecting train. Never again. Not worth it. I'll use Uber.
