    Don't Use Xoom

Same happened to me. I'm trying to pay up and I can't. I've only received one 'no-reply' email about it. Apparently they expect me to make multiple international phone calls and jump through hoops to make up for their administrative error. I want to pay and they are making it extremely...

And sorry, don't know any here that could come close to my indian auntie's food; but glad to read that there seems to be a couple of decent ones now.

    Indian - Thai food

You have got to be kidding me. By far one of the worst places I've ever been. I went there with an Argie friend who didn't want to enter because no one was in there, but I convinced her because I wanted her to try curry. So we order curry. They take it out of the fridge and put it in the...

    Rental Rights For Foreigners

There is a bit more to the story. I'm the current roommie and I adore my roommie and don't want her to go, but don't blame her at all since he is renting his whole apartment at half the market price without a deposit. It's cheaper than her rent here (although she will have to get furniture and...

    Don't Use Xoom

I agree the customer service is a joke. I've called and been hung up on, the phone lines were terrible, but since there is a 30-35% difference in the rate received from the ATM I suffered through it. Worth the hassle for me, just depends on your priorities.

    I Tried Xoom Today

Hello any word on the rate that Latin Express gives? It's not on the website from what I can see.

    From Russia With Love

Sorry to backtrack but another option not mentioned is to fly to Bariloche or Viedma and take the Tren Patagonico (which is now running) to San Antonio del Oeste/Las Grutas. It's a train with a restaurant, disco and cinema. I did a fair amount of swimming in Madryn and Piramides which have...

The best thing you can take is activated charcoal, just don't know where to find it. Antacids make GI problems worse longterm...

Help! Need To Trap A Cat.

Hello call the Animal Protection Agency: Tel. 4124- 7900. They may be able to help, although it sounds like a can of tuna and a good book may be in your future, as said above. Something similar happened when my cat decided she wanted some adventure. After two and a half days with no food in...

    Favourite Cafe In Bsas

I enjoy La Poesia, owned by the same people as El Federal. http://wander-argentina.com/la-poesia-%E2%80%93a-literary-cafe-in-san-telmo/ The waitstaff isn't as nice as in El Federal, and the menu is identical, but upstairs is a safe place to work with a laptop and they have homebrewed beer and...

Why Does Everyone Here Seem To Hate Buenos Aires So Much?

Chica to give you a little perspective, I had a group of South American friends when I lived in the U.S. They always complained about how fat and ignorant Americans were, and all I could say was, "Well yes, that is quite true." I saw it through their eyes -- an average American (such as a local...

Is Food Really So Expensible? Continue Of The $13.000 Thread

Sorry I thought you were saying living outside of Buenos Aires, where you could conceivably have a a garden. Super slow internet at the moment, but according to the amount of land devoted to organic farming it is number two: http://www.organic-w...012-summary.pdf It is third by some other...

Is Food Really So Expensible? Continue Of The $13.000 Thread

1.) Many would be surprised to know that Argentina is number three in the world for organic produce. The problem is much of it is exported and the idea of eating organic has not become mainstream, so it is not marketed as such internally. Most of what you buy in Buenos Aires is probably not...

    Overstay Controls

Yes it was a series of misadventures that caused that to happen, but without getting personal I contribute to this country in a few different ways. The only thing I've taken is free health care and I always make a financial contribution when they pass the hat at the hospital. At any rate, I was...

    Overstay Controls

The situation was that on night one I had to drive all night to the airport in a major city for a morning flight, as I was in the middle of nowhere. Even though I arrived within the requisite 90 minutes, Homeland Security's extended pat down (for which they had to go find a female to conduct)...

    Overstay Controls

Well just to balance things out a bit I will share that the last time I came in I was held by immigrations for 6 hours at Eze. This is because the ATM ate my card at Ezeiza and I thus I had no cash to pay the reciprocity fee. There is some possibilty that this was a set-up because I had had...

Looking For Housesitter/s Through The Holidays

We are all very pleased with the situation, including the cats so it's a win-win-win situation. The only person who is unhappy about it is you, a stranger from the internet whose opinion means nothing to me. I hope everyone has a lovely Christmas.

Looking For Housesitter/s Through The Holidays

Give me a break, I'm not wealthy (if I was I wouldn't charge anything) and this is my only residence -- with everything I own inside. The cats take less than one minute of work per day and a lot of people enjoy cats. The person can eat my food, use my computer, play my guitar and drum, relax...

    People Who Like B.a.

According to Vamos Spanish Academy there are nine countries that still use vos. http://wander-argentina.org/2011/03/argentine-spanish-voseo/ I lived with a family in Costa Rica and the husband and wife used 'vos' with each other. It can get tricky because in some regions vos is used only with...
