    Rent in Dollars

Yes, but the lease itself will be in pesos.

Something to consider - when flying out of an international airport, look for the currencies exchange desk. FYI, they usually have pretty standard hours, 8 AM to 5 PM. I have found when going from the US to Argentina that many times they will give me more pesos for the dollar than the current...

    Rent in Dollars

I think there may be a restriction in rentals accepting dollars as a part of the contract - the contracts probably have to be in pesos. The decision of the landlord to accept dollars occasionally was totally personal on his part. It’s not like he or I broadcast it! That being said, it is...

    Rent in Dollars

My experience in renting both short and long term apartments in BA - the rent should be expressed in pesos & the contracts were always in pesos. At times my landlords would accept dollars but only at the day’s exact conversion rate from the rent in pesos. So there was no real advantage to...

    Cranberries

I was never able to find fresh cranberries in BA. I had to bring them from the US. It is not difficult to reconstitute the dehydrated cranberries, however. One of the years I brought cranberry sauce to your place, I made it with reconstituted dried cranberries and nobody knew the difference...

    Getting pesos OUT?

I actually looked into this last week. Western Union charges a 10% fee to move pesos to the US. The conversion rate depends on the moment you present the pesos at Western Union. $239,000ARS transaction limit, I don’t know if there is a monthly limit. FYI Western Union in Argentina will not...

Actually, no. I sent in the past week at 78 and at 77. I was just commenting on the drop in exchange rate.

    Western Union money transfer

Also, as of today I don’t know if anyone has noticed but in the lower transfer amount the fee has increased from $7 to $9 and the cash to cash rate has now dropped to 75.01 pesos per dollar.

    Western Union money transfer

A point of interest - the WU transactions are en Blanco. Everything gets reported to AFIP. You’re required to report and possibly pay taxes on these transactions unless of course it is family support which is exempt up to $1000 a month.

    Dollars in Uruguay?

I once asked at a cueva, why they only accepted crisp clean bills and was told that the customers who buy them expect them that way.

    Western Union money transfer

i’ve now sent 3 of these WU transfers in the past two weeks, cash in the US, cash picked up at a WU outside of Capital. Just under 40,000 pesos each time and no issue yet. When CK was in power 5-6 years ago, I also did this with WU. Never an issue on either end. I suppose if you were going to...

Alberto Fernández doesn't like Bugs Bunny

It’s just a cartoon for God’s sake. I hope it’s not the start of a making mountains out of mole hills philosophy!

    Western Union money transfer

To get the best rate with Western Union, you have to take cash into a local office and send the money to a local office. If debit cards, bank accounts on either side are involved the rate for exchange goes down. FYI

Anyone else having problems getting dollars in?

Well, with you know who coming back, it’s a safe bet that at some point the official exchange rate will get frozen again! So, with the blu rate floating close to reality, yes, you could lose quite a bit in the not so distant future.

How ugly has it gotten, or not?

Perhaps this is the plan all along. That the newly elected president must step down and guess who becomes the new president?!

If whoever is in control is “wiped out”, what would then be the alternative form of governance?
