I checked with a friend and apparently about a year ago, the central bank imposed a no dollar deal for atm's. They were already programmed so it show the option but will not allow it. This is the case for any account I am told.

Yeah, I would bet you cannot get dollars. Most of the Atm's I have used show dollars as an option but when you go try, it does not work and only pesos. Let us know, that is why the AMEX option is best, you can get up to 5k a month and no fees.

I would do it when you get there. You can always find a place for a couple of nights, hotel or apartment for 2-5 nights and go see places before you decide. Gives you more flexibility and allows you to negotiate. Online is not the best way I think
