    Moneda Melodramas

Yes, it's like a game of chess and you have to think several moves ahead. For me 5 peso notes are like knights, an important piece in achieving your goal of a moneda checkmate at the register. Keep your even notes in one pocket and your fives in the other and you are on the way to getting...

Is Buenos Aires a Third World City?

With the most recent available statistics dating from 2007 and a government with a history of meddling with numbers it's kind of hard to produce anything definitive and so this thread (like a previous one) has devolved into two camps; those giving anecdotal evidence of the existence or otherwise...

Is Buenos Aires a Third World City?

The terms were never useful. Third World morphed at some stage from signifying non aligned nations to impoverished nations. Like North and South (and The West and the rest) they were always hamstrung by never being purely economic definitions and have been abandoned for some time in...

Do fears of crime in Argentina reflect reality?

No safer than Somalia? No more dangerous than Switzerland, Japan? Come on, this is a cop out, say something instead of this relativistic madness.

    Joining the cut-paste brigade

So we are supposed to sit in silence whenever faux progressives swoon at another display of nuanced vacuity from Obama in case we may somehow inspire one of your nut jobs to crawl out of a hole and air his grievances in the American way? Sorry, but I'll keep pointing at the Emperor's bollocks.

Do fears of crime in Argentina reflect reality?

I've spent time in dozens of cities with close to 100% African populations and only a small number would I describe as having felt threatening or having a crime problem (more than any other city has a crime problem).

OBAMA Speech in Cairo was a 10+ AMAZING !!!

    Inflation Outrage!

The notion of 'cheap Argentina' only really existed for a few years following the crisis. It seems to just be reiterated now out of habit.

OBAMA Speech in Cairo was a 10+ AMAZING !!!

This thread is about Obama's recent speech and its meaning for the Muslim world (or lack thereof). I've said nothing about him not carrying out promises he has given dates for, I hope that he does close Guantanamo and other similar prisons, withdraw fully from Iraq etc...

OBAMA Speech in Cairo was a 10+ AMAZING !!!

You took the words out of my mouth. I can think of at least one thing he could've said in a major speech to the Muslim world that may have set the stage for a complete change of direction in American foreign policy and would've had me writing with caps lock on sprinkling exclamation marks...

OBAMA Speech in Cairo was a 10+ AMAZING !!!

Exactly, reading the speech without the haze of emotion (and patriotism no doubt) can be an informative exercise in extracting the bare bones meaning, and here it appears to be... nothing. No, lazy is being so willfully sucked in by pure sentiment and failing to provide yourself with sufficient...
