    New restaurant, need opinions

Absolutely. My only objection to 'country' is that I personally wouldn't have enough records to fill an hour, let alone an evening - Glen Campbell's Greatest Hits and a few Jason & The Scorchers tunes on repeat isn't going to keep the punters entertained! ;)

    New restaurant, need opinions

Don't you have a TV at home? Or friends who have a TV and like to watch sport? The last thing I want when I go out to eat or drink with friends is to find myself sat in front of someone staring up at a TV with their mouth gaping open, incapable of partaking in any kind of social interaction...

    New restaurant, need opinions

You want to open a bar/restaurant? Somewhere for people to go out and enjoy having a drink and food with their friends? A place to socialize, maybe even meet new people, make new friends? Then why the $!*& would you want to fill it with televisions!!! One of the things that I absolutely detest...

Shipping personal items to Buenos Aires

fifs2 - I'm really sorry, but your last post actually made me laugh out loud. Not because it's funny, but because it's so tragic! If I'd known the complexity of your family situation I would never have even started with the 'advice'. Now that I know it, I'll be honest and say I reckon it'll be a...

How much does it cost? I don't need to go, but as I've never done it before I might go just for the craic.

New guy contemplating move to BA

As was most of my reply. :) Not a cheap date then? In that case, you're paying.... ;) Agree 100%.

Can't believe I carry an Arizona driver's licence

Whoops....it looks like I got mixed up by assuming that pikto99 was supporting Choripán's original post! Although I still have no idea whatsoever what pikto99 is on about, I think I've worked out that he is in fact very much against Choripán's stance. In which case, pikto99 is the racist...

As I warned on the first page! You'll be fine Johanna - I look forward to meeting you when you get here.

New guy contemplating move to BA

No. It's relatively cheap if you're earning USD/Euros/Pounds. No, but you can live pretty well on US$500 + your accommodation. No, but if you're planning a long stay, have a good look around and get lucky, you can find a great apartment for US$400. For shorter stays you're going to be paying...

Shipping personal items to Buenos Aires

And I don't understand this at all! What paperwork? Why would you need anything else except your passport and your 'residencia precaria', which is one sheet of A4?

Shipping personal items to Buenos Aires

fifs2 - you have a child here?!? Then there's something very wrong going on with your application. Who is handling it? Seriously - someone is pulling your chain. If your name is on the birth certificate, it's a simple and automatic procedure to get your 'residente permanente.' Your DNI is...

Shipping personal items to Buenos Aires

Blimey! I didn't even know that those 'taxes' existed! And I'm also surprised that it's taking so long for your residency to get sorted? I got my 'precaria' in a very short time and then my 'premanente' within a year, and most of that was delays getting my documents together. What is your...

Me too, but if Johanna asks me really, really nicely I might agree to show her the delights of San Telmo one Sunday afternoon. ;) :p ;)

fifs2 - I don't understand. Why are you paying for renewing your tourist visa? And what's the $2000/year for?

New guy contemplating move to BA

That's true, it does make a difference. But the difference between what I've been extremely lucky to get and a nice one-bedroom in Recoleta is still only US$400/mth....which seems like a relatively small amount when put against the 'US$2000 is doable' debate, no?

New guy contemplating move to BA

citygirl - so, by your calculations, allowing for living in a nice apartment in the best part of town, eating out twice a week (at very flash restaurants - AR$100!), spending half his life on the phone (AR$300/mth!) and drinking 3 or 4 cocktails on a night out (cocktails, how chic!).....you...

Can't believe I carry an Arizona driver's licence

It sounds suspiciously like the SUS Law that was actively imposed in the UK during the Thatcher years, which was always very controversial and garnered accusations of legalized racism because it led to lots of non-whites being seemingly targeted. If this is the case and if you're rallying...

Can't believe I carry an Arizona driver's licence

Right, I found the following in one of your posts on a different thread: Arizona’s new law that requires local law enforcement officers to make a “reasonable attempt” to determine the immigration status of persons they legally come into contact with and whom they reasonably suspect of being in...
