Long-termers, how do you deal with being homesick?

"Lonely British expat seeks lonely ex-newyoiker. Single dad, unemployed, broke, no friends, short-arse, spec-wearing, balding, bearded, own teeth (mostly) but generally going to seed. Interested in....stuff." That should get them breaking my door down.......once I've got them inside. :D

To everyone who lives in Palermo...

Not in Sant Telmo/Monserrat they can't! Well it's a bit late to be telling me that now! ;) Unfortunately I'm 4 months into a 2 year rental contract....and I'm probably going to have to renew that contract when the 2 years is up! I didn't realize how lucky I'd been in getting a 2 year contract...

To everyone who lives in Palermo...

Went and had a wander round there today. Have to say I agree with SaraSara - it looks a bit like docklands in East London in the early days. First time I've seen lines of BMWs and Mercs parked on the streets here!

Long-termers, how do you deal with being homesick?

Much easier when you're in a relationship though Lee. Mine's with my son....but it's a similar sort of thing.

To everyone who lives in Palermo...

It's a pretty big city! I happened to land in San Telmo in temporary accommodation when I first arrived and then found somewhere affordable here on a long-term contract, so this is the barrio I know. I looked (on-line) at Palermo and Recoleta, but there was nothing even remotely close to being...

Long-termers, how do you deal with being homesick?

Well, I've been here for 3 years, but I'm not your typical profile so I don't think my experience will be of any help really. I've got virtually no family back 'home', although I do miss my mates at times*. And since coming here I've now got my own child, so my most important family is now here...

To everyone who lives in Palermo...

Easier said than done Lee! I've only been here in BA for 4+ months and a lot of that has been about finding somewhere (affordable) to live and then furnishing it and at least 50% of my time is spent looking after my little lad. And in that time I've not known anybody here. Now I'm settled in...

To everyone who lives in Palermo...

I'm very sorry, but I can't talk to you any more.....ok, maybe through an interpreter. ;) I spent a couple of hours wandering around Scalabrini Ortiz and Santa Fe yesterday - you live in a different world to what I know. A different planet completely! I saw clean, tree-lined streets, fresh...

    Invisible Empire - Documentary

I haven't watched the documentary yet (I note it's 2hrs+ and have put it to one side to watch when I have that much time to spare), and I'm only planning to watch it for amusement value - conspiracy theorists are usually good for a laugh.... Having said that - this idea that a third party will...

I was going to reply to this thread yesterday, but I just couldn't work out where to start....there is SOOOO much great Latin music! bigmike - I think we have very similar tastes! OK, rather than just make a huge list or repeat recommendations already made, I'll give a shout out to my all-time...
