There is something I don't get...

Well, then, jeez, ALELI, you should be no stranger to bitching and moaning about life in the big city. You just missing home or something and upset that some expats are talking smack about it here on the internets? You wanna complain about NYC any time, I'm here for you. I'm sure I have far...

There is something I don't get...

Well, what's an expat? If you've got a suitable definition, you should maybe contribute to this thread: http://baexpats.org/expat-life/7486-what-your-definition-expat.html I don't think many of those "expats" in Prague in the 90s were working for local wages. Nor are the "expats" hanging...

New Entry "Reciprocity" Fee for US, Canada, Australian Citizens...

Yikes, it's actually more expensive for Canadians and Australian who enter the country more than once in 10 years than it is for Americans. Take that, suckas! Argentina loves us Americans more! USA! USA!

There is something I don't get...

Nobody's telling anyone how to live, Steve... Exactly. But, unfortunately, there is a great deal of insecurity here in once-great Argentina. And no shortage of false pride (which leads to lots of conversations that go something like this: "Argentina is the best!" "Eh, it's okay." "How dare...

The Good Food in BA Thread

Wow, I have said the exact opposite thing to my girlfriend a million times. And then I took her to NY to show her what I was talking about. I still don't get these comparisons of Anyplace, USA to the "Paris of South America." If porteños want to run with the big dogs they should expect some...

The Good Food in BA Thread

Can't we all just get along?! ;) Well, Ailujjj, this thread is really about good food in Buenos Aires (which is the NYC/DC/LA/etc. of Argentina so the comparisons to major--and far superior ;)--cities in the US are warranted) but I will say this about food in the rest of Argentina: it does seem...

Nope. Screw 'em. Besides, you never know when some weirdo foreigner's gonna have some crazy monkey pox or a little bomb strapped their thigh or whatever. Best to just avoid 'em. :)

New Entry "Reciprocity" Fee for US, Canada, Australian Citizens...

Is it a ten-year thing? Life of the passport? Any indication anywhere of how they will keep track of who's paid it? Something they staple to your passport like in Chile? I have to get a new passport very soon so I'd like to know if I'm going to have to pay this when I get back from Brazil in...

The Good Food in BA Thread

Dear lord, what an ignorant fool. Stupidity seems to be ruining every thread on this site at this point. And how ridiculous is it that these Argentines spend so much time at this expat forum site? Can anyone imagine doing that back home? It's creepy.

The Good Food in BA Thread

So nutty. We are beyond spoiled for every kind of food in the US. There are few places in the world with as many excellent options (I've heard good things about Canada, Australia and Hong Kong). But, whatever, if you like crappy Argy food, that's cool. To each their own.

    Buenos Aires is Beautiful

Unlikely. One of the common criticisms of Americans is that we are too clean, too obsessed with things like germs, and that leads us to buy all sorts of products we may not need and to waste a whole lot of water cleaning our bodies and everything else around us often. Perhaps you were walking...

What's Wrong with the Young Guys in BA??

Hah! Yeah, I think Argentina has an idiot dude problem more than anything. Frankly, women are rarely the problem anywhere. Men are generally the dumb fucks who ruin everything and young men are, of course, always the dumbest. But young dudes in Buenos Aires are particularly ridiculous. Very...

Sausage other than Chorizo for Gumbo?

There's a coil sausage sold at Carrefour that not too bad at all. Can't remember the brand but you should be able to spot it. I used it myself for some crazy Spanish recipe I found on the internet and it turned out great.

Irifune's not too bad (but expensive) and Yuki's probably the best (tiny place with an old Japanese dude that's been here forever making the sushi; great service, too). I've also heard that Sushi Furusato (delivery-only; http://www.sushi.com.ar/) isn't too bad. The only restaurant that really...
