    Anyone bought us$ this week?

Dude, I have ALREADY DONE THIS! What part of that do you not understand? We know our status at AFIP and are discussing with AFIP them. We have submitted all of our tax forms every year, paid all of our taxes, social contribution, etc and yet AFIP is STILL telling us we are not registered even...

    Exchange Rate Robbery or Reasonable?

No. I'm an immigrant & I pay everything in pesos. I'm talking about tourists. Perma-tourists should know by now that there are plenty of free apartments and they should be looking for a reasonable landlord. Lucas, if the Argentine people aren't going to change (ie, they continue to force...

    Anyone bought us$ this week?

Your suggestion that we or the company are evading taxes is a joke and not a funny one either. We are the muppets that have done everything by the ever changing book. But I may have miss wrote above. What I can tell you is we have filled our taxes every year. I just pulled out the papers. But...

    Exchange Rate Robbery or Reasonable?

You don't have to tell me how it is here. I know very well how it is here. I still believe if the landlord wants dollars it's up to them to get dollars. Just because some people want to fleece tourists that doesn't mean I have to agree with it. But please don't patronize me that I need to...

    Exchange Rate Robbery or Reasonable?

And I'm glad that you're glad that that's how I feel. ;) No need to tell me how the market works though. I've been here long enough to know. Does not mean I have to agree with it. Thanks for the tips, but this is not an issue for us as we have a regular unfurnished contract in pesos with...

    Exchange Rate Robbery or Reasonable?

I think it's "unfair" to ask for dollars. At the end of the day the currency here is the peso. It the owner wants dollars, or yen, or whatever it should be up to them to change it not the tenant. That is true for any country really. I can't ask my tenants in Europe to pay me Yen for the rent. If...

    Anyone bought us$ this week?

That's just wrong! We are salaried employees who pay our taxes right before we even see the money. We fill our income tax forms every year even though it it NOT required if you are salaried. The problem is that we were not registered with AFIP which is also NOT required for a salaried...

How do people here afford McDonalds/Burger King?

In every single newspaper published every single day there are 2x1 and other promotions. There is also a whole list of low price items and a 20peso Big Mac meal. It's 40 for all the new meals like the triple Big Mac and if you pay full price. Yes. I'm lucky enough to walk by a McDs every day...

    Exchange Rate Robbery or Reasonable?

Tell her the fact that she can't buy dollars in not your problem. The currency in Argentina is the peso. If she wants dollars it is up to her to buy them at whatever rate she wants. However, the official rate is 4.25 (4.26 if you want to be generous). Then tell her if she was registered at the...

    Two free books

If something has been passed on it means the have been given away. To pass something on means that it passed (or moved) from one person to the other. If someone "passes on" it means they died, ie "passed on to the next life, heaven, etc"

    Thanksgiving in BA

Whenever I'd done Thanksgiving outside the US (which hasn't been many times really) I've just had it on Saturday. Do your turkey then. On Thursday drink vodka tonics and eat normal food! :P

Where to get 100% GRASS-FED beef?!?

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a myth. But very difficult to find, especially in the city. You can get a clue by the color of the fat.

Getting U$S back to the States

@ AlfajorEfi, Thanks for your reply. What am I trying to do? Get my money out! LOL No, I haven't changed yet. Normally I would just send from our bank here to our bank in Europe. However, we are still waiting for all the "tramites" to be finished and registered before we can do anything. I'd...

How do I say the French term "latin" in Castellano?

Where are you putting this Protestant/Catholic divid? It certainly does not go through France. In France and Italy, I think the divide is more around climate. The hotter the climate the more "latin" (ie, laid bad) the culture.
