Best way to stay in Argentina?

Practically speaking, is applying for this visa rentista externally the best way to go? It seems that if I applied externally (i.e. at the local consulate here in the US), I would be unable to satisfy certain requirements, such as a criminal background check with Argentinian police. On the...

Best way to stay in Argentina?

As it happens, there's an Argentine consulate practically nextdoor, here in downtown Atlanta. Think I'll go investigate the visa rentista angle.

Do you know offhand what the term/length of the rentista visa is?

Best way to stay in Argentina?

Interesting. You're right, the "Rentista" section of http://www.migraciones.gov.ar/accesible/?nomercosur_temporaria doesn't say anything about the nature of the income, only that one must have it. Now, of course, I'm my own accountant, and my income is highly volatile (although never below...

    So, whats next?

You're right. My message wasn't spoken to those that have somewhat ulterior reasons for being in Argentina, but I didn't say that. Sorry, I was projecting. :(

    So, whats next?

You need to think about what brought you down here in the first place. If the cultural/sociological/human/aesthetic side of life in AR doesn't please you, you shouldn't have come in the first place. After all, as people here will tirelessly point out, everything else ranges from inconvenient...

Best day or weekend trips from BA

    Sorry, it's a rather idiosyncratic Americanism: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/More_cowbell http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRzds1HHkas

Best way to stay in Argentina?

They never really use anything but vos down there, do I? In keeping with my cultured instincts and Russian background (where we also have a formal mode of address), I kept talking to everyone unfamiliar in Usted when I was down there, and they gave me the weirdest looks.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm definitely going to give it an honest try, and try not to be dragged down by the stuff that's routinely discussed here.

    Of Hotdogs

I've been to La Pasiva in Montevideo and while I didn't have the hotdogs, it was indeed very good!

Best way to stay in Argentina?

That charming voseo -- still getting used to it after so many years of speaking North American Spanish. But, I like it! You made me wonder what my answer would be to the question, "¿que hacés viviendo acá?", since I have no intention of working in Argentina, and no estoy en pareja. What's a...

Best day or weekend trips from BA

You might want to check out Montevideo, just to say you've been. It can't hold a candle to BA in terms of cowbell, but it's worth checking out IMHO, particularly if you like beach or related activities.

Best way to stay in Argentina?

Yes, but it must be passive income, such as from an annuity, CD, trust, pension, etc. I do not have those things. I just have working income from my self-employment.

Best way to stay in Argentina?

Thanks! It's refreshing to hear that at least one person is optimistic about such a venture, given the criticism that I see of the "permatourist" approach here, as well as periodic rumours of crackdowns on those practicing it. I do understand that being on an "irregular" immigration status...

Best way to stay in Argentina?

So, I know this is a can of worms, but I'm looking for some advice on the best way to "permatourist", since I presume that is the only method by which I can stay in Argentina for a period of at least one to several years. I've read many prior threads here on this issue, but can't seem to find...

BsAs, only 102nd most expensive city in the world...

It's not even all that useful a measure for expats that continue to earn income abroad in foreign currencies. On the ground, you still have to spend pesos, and that means you will need more of them, as long as exchange rates trail inflation.

BsAs, only 102nd most expensive city in the world...

A measure of cost of living relative to other places doesn't really say a whole lot. What really matters is the relationship between price levels and prevalent local wages. So does inflation: wages lag behind (sometimes far behind) price increases, and so when price levels rise but people get...
