BA News: BA Herald on Strike & SUGAR Shut by The Man

I heard complaints before about the Herald's staff's command of the English language...but the Spanish-language newspapers are not Borges-class either (Clarín mainly)...and they have native speakers.

Fun Betting Pool: When will the next crisis hit Argentina?

"Anyone affiliated with Peronist or Radical" puts also Macri out of the map, because he's been or is trying to affiliate with politicians from those two parties (Duhalde, De Narvaez, Alfonsín, Cobos). It's Ezeiza then.

Fun Betting Pool: When will the next crisis hit Argentina?

Jaredw, what's the no shooting-your-own-head option according to you for the upcoming elections? Also: was there any such option in the last -say- 30 years? I hope it's not a "anyone but..." kind of answer, but actual names. I really don't mean to be ironic. Cause if the answer is no, it's...

    I hate dulce de leche

As a local, I heard it repeteadly from foreigners, with varying degrees of dislike...It's a matter of taste and habit. I think it can be compared to spicy food and sauces (that expats relish): I don't know if hate is the word, but locals aren't counted among the biggest fans. Me included.

The deal with Argentine men and their "girl" friends

Honestly, I haven't come across any particular case so extreme: a 14 year old with a thirty something, but I can tell that traditionally young women date older men, even since an early age. It was -is- completely common in high school years to see the 13, 14 year olds with the 5th year students...

    El Adios a Nestor

I can see you're in total disagreement with the government, and the nationalization of Aerolineas (and I suppose of anything else). And I don't deny the essence you describe in many rallies. My point is that it is NOT what happened today nor yesterday. Not even the media that usually denounces...

    El Adios a Nestor

Yes! Chori and vino! That's what the tens of thousands (mainly people in their 20s and 30s) who showed up at Plaza de Mayo, waited for 5-8 hours, sang Ave María a capella, ran along el Bajo under the rain escorting the President's car ...and cried...that's what they were after: a sausage...

    Nestor Kirchner has just passed

Sure Sergio...because the privatizations were done in such an efficient manner...I remember being released from those lazy bums of Entel...and feel free to choose between Telefónica and...well, that's it...I lived south of Rivadavia so no other option for me. I love their very efficient helpdesk...

    Nestor Kirchner has just passed

So...those who are comparing his death with Eva's in 1952 are correct in one thing: there is people actually celebrating this death ("collective energy"). SHAME ON THEM.

When will the stupid liberals learn...

Free market is the solution to everything! Government is bad! Adam Smith said that more than 200 years ago...and nothing happened, nothing changed since the late 18th century that shows the opposite thing. :)

    We are Pirates

Aren't you going a bit too far by flatly dismissing 170 thousand people as "politically ignorant"? Not that you said this, but it reminds me of what was proposed in the past by some politicians in the country (many citizens still think this way) that "qualified voting" should be introduced , so...

    Cordoba?

My best friend moved to Córdoba almost 10 years ago, with her family. They are all very happy: less violence, sierras mountains only half hour away, very funny and friendly people. Found this article on an expat living there you may be interested...

    How Long Until Next Crisis?

The new thing about the current scenario is that the Central Bank of Argentina has over 50 billion dollars in reserves, and is monitoring and controlling the exchange rate. The CB has the means to flood the market with dollars in case there's panic. At least for several weeks. The collapse -if...
