Argentines plunge into debt for bills, cars and birthday parties

I really don't think the country is on a terrible trajectory. I think Argentinians think their country is always in a terrible position and are expecting the government to fix it and that should happen quickly. Even though there has been decades of issues to fix and policy errors. I also think...

How are foreigners handling everyday payments in Buenos Aires?

For those that don't have a DNI there are some apps that you can transfer money or stablecoins to and they will convert to pesos and you can pay with QR and transferencia. The exchange rates were good. I don't remember the names but they were discussed in the forum months ago.

Argentina to seek looser foreign ownership rules for rural land

I am not sure what you are trying to get at about landowners extracting resources as if they can just take what they want from the land because it is located within the boundaries. Typically, mineral rights do not belong to land owners. I cannot speak for certain for Argentina but in most...

Why Amazon is struggling to crack Argentina

I live in an interior province and I believe I have received, and I have shipped with DHL. There will be a shop that is an agent for them probably so its unlikely to be a DHL truck. There isn't a FedEx where I am. But there are weekly deliveries that come from the next province over.

Argentina’s textile sector reels as import surge hits job

I think we can agree to disagree at this point. We both have experiences that support each's point of view both in Argentina and abroad. I guess if its really hard to import things as you suggest, then opening the market shouldn't really have much of an impact since it'll be really hard to...

Argentina’s textile sector reels as import surge hits job

Understood. From expererience in other countries, these types of companies 1) may have other methods or able to organize personalized solutions as well, and 2) may still be able to offer services in terms of acting as your customs agent and therefore filing the papers etc. and if they don't they...

Argentina’s textile sector reels as import surge hits job

Ries example of importing was an experience he had 3 years ago, which was before Milei's administration. From my experience in industry in Argentina, customs clearing and importing did improve a lot with this administration. You now also have Amazon which handles much of that for you. I am not...

I know. I started that and the impact it had on Canadian small businesses and Americans that had already placed orders and received them.

    Apostille for USA financial documents?

From my experience, financial documents (statements) cannot be directly apostilled. But as others say you may notarize them as true, and then it is the notary that gets apostilled. This might be acceptable if other have done this and it works. It can be easy as it can be initiated by a video...

Argentina’s textile sector reels as import surge hits job

I would say you've been fairly lucky then in your experience. I think I remember buying poker chips 20+ years ago from eBay and getting surprised by the brokerage bill. I think in Canada the limit at the time was $20. Similarly, I know someone that tried to buy a CNC table from Alibaba in...

Argentina’s textile sector reels as import surge hits job

I understand your position. But I think its related to how its done. One off shipments as an individual will always cost more. Even in the US. Business rates for shipping with FedEx, UPS are different than customer rates, and they also can vary based on quantity. In terms of brokerage fees...

    Coffee in the market

I try to avoid Nestle water products. Like LuckyLuke said, there are a host of other costs, including shipping, import duties, labour, rent, roasting, waste, etc. I don't live in BA, but there is a business here called Via Express. They import beans from Colombia and Brazil and roast them in...

The four main takeaways from Argentina Week in New York

I don't think the purpose of this event was to announce deals. Over the last few months Argentina has taken a back seat in the headlines given current events. $8.5B in USD debt has been raised by domestic companies in foreign debt markets to finance projects since October. These events are...

Milei’s fiscal shock has changed Argentina’s destiny

    1) No, I am not a Thatcherite. 2) Yes they lowered the asset tax. Are you familiar with it and at what level it kicked in at? This wasn't a tax on multimillionaires, hundred millionaires and billionaires. So paying 1-1.75% on assets is quite a bit. Particularly when you will be paying income tax...

Milei’s fiscal shock has changed Argentina’s destiny

    1) I don't think its necessarily Chicago School or Austrian economics if the idea is about not running a deficit (printing money). Having low stable inflation is healthy and acceptable. The issue is you need to prove that you are responsible in managing the budget and can continue to pay...
