    Visa Applications While Overstaying

Well, there is no way of knowing whether Flying's overstay at this hypothetical future point will have been 'brief'. But, thinking the matter through further (see the subsequent post), I think in practical terms, s/he may not even get to go to an office of Migraciones. By applying...

    Visa Applications While Overstaying

Think through the mechanical process. Assuming you gather enough documents, bring them into the country and have them translated, you then have to upload them to the system, with your passport and street address (certificado de domicilio). In normal circumstances (the applicant is legal in...

    Visa Applications While Overstaying

A little unclear I think: "I am only looking to stay in the country for a few more months". Why go to all the trouble and expense of obtaining the documents and preparing a temporary residency application if you are planning to leave soon? You are already irregular and will remain so until they...

Things to keep in mind for student visa (temp residency - legal status)

Agreed. Everybody is getting very excited about the student temporary residency given the apparent changes afoot, but, like any residency it is far from easy to get one and keep it.

Might be moving back to UK temporarily but don't want to lose residency in Argentina. Suggestions?

I thought your question was prompted by the DNU. It has thrown the cat among the pigeons and there is plenty of activity on this board as a result in the last there or four days. Have a look around. It talks about temporary residency getting cancelled after an absense of six months. But that...

Might be moving back to UK temporarily but don't want to lose residency in Argentina. Suggestions?

It's a little unclear the way this week's DNU was worded, but it looks like, in theory at least, it's both; you must spend at least 183 days in Argentina and if you try to enter on the 183rd day of a consecutive spell of 183 days outside the country you may find your residency has been canceled.

Might be moving back to UK temporarily but don't want to lose residency in Argentina. Suggestions?

I believe it is 183 days over the 365 days from the date of issue of the disposición. The problem you may face is that when you lodge the application for another 12 months in October 2025 (and presumably again in October 2026) you must be in Argentina. And still be here when they assess it. If...

Might be moving back to UK temporarily but don't want to lose residency in Argentina. Suggestions?

To renew it in October, you will need to still have the employment that entitles you to the residency. How will you retain the employment contract here if you go to the UK for 18 months? That seems to be the first hurdle, not the new arrangements in the DNU.

    Immigrations changes now in effect

As per my comment yesterday on the thread attaching the BATimes article, the decree introduces the vague concept of "sufficient financial means" when assessing permanent residency applications. It is unclear whether sufficient financial means will continue to be demonstrated, in categories like...

Milei tightens Argentina’s immigration rules in nod to Donald Trump

"The text also adds the requirement of proving people have “sufficient financial means to subsist in the country” to obtain a permanent residence. In the meantime, they may be granted a temporary residency (called “precaria”), but from now on, it will last 90 days instead of the former 180 and...

    Immigrations changes now in effect

It says that any residency or citizenship application currently underway will be assessed based on the law as it stood at the time the process began. DISPOSICIONES TRANSITORIAS ARTÍCULO 44.- Aquellos trámites de otorgamiento de residencia que se hubieren iniciado de forma previa a la entrada...

How to renew a pensioner's residency visa via Radex / Renaper

You may not even need the FBI report at this stage of your journey. Your lawyer will advise. Mine told me to stop after the first renewal, and they haven't asked for it since, even though Migraciones know I have left the country at times (the principal reason being to obtain the apostilled...

How to renew a pensioner's residency visa via Radex / Renaper

Yes, there is an online element to it. But, ultimately, you have to attend an appointment at Migraciones, deliver the hard copy apostilled originals and their official translations, have your fingerprints retaken and a new photo taken for your eventual new DNI. The same process as last year...

Great. You're obviously doing a lot of work on this. It is a stressful process and now a stressful time. See more comments above.

Unión Civil Convivencial & Permanent Residency Requirements

No knowledge about a permanent residency application based on civil union, but see generic comments above inserted beside your questions based on several years of experience (in less fraught times than those that began yesterday) across successful temporary residency applications in two...

    Immigration changes: Health, Education, Deportation

More detail emerges here: https://www.infobae.com/politica/2025/05/14/ciudadania-por-grandes-inversiones-deportaciones-expres-y-residencia-mas-estricta-que-dice-la-letra-chica-de-la-reforma-migratoria-de-milei/ The article mentions a number of items. The most significant one I can see for...

    Immigration changes: Health, Education, Deportation

Or the comic strip? (I personally find the comic strip very lacking in credibility, but Bayly is pretty reliable. He's much more than just a Youtuber, and the only impartial and serious source of news about US polítics that I've been able to find.) Also interesting are the comments at the foot...

    Immigration changes: Health, Education, Deportation

Is that really still the case, though? According to Jaime (admittedly using examples he read about in a comic strip called The New York Times), border officials are denying re-entry to the US even to permanent residents (and canceling their permanent residence) if those permanent residents set...

    Immigration changes: Health, Education, Deportation

No, you cannot. There are plenty of paths to permanent residency, but the one you mention does not exist.
