Cost of living in Argentina for foreigners improving?

Interesting article. It says that in 2024 overall prices in USD terms rose 67%, something every person that is calculating cost of living in a foreign valuta has felt. 2024 marked the end of ridiculously cheap living in Argentina for foreigners. Now, it is expected that at the end of 2025...

Statement of Tax Liability in Argentina needed

I saw the text cause I got a notice by e-mail of your new post. Without publicing ofc, can you tell me why you deleted it? It read like a perfect summary.

Does anyone have to file taxes in Argentina and with the IRS?

Just curious: with respect to the minimum threshold for income tax, are you referring to this?

Statement of Tax Liability in Argentina needed

Fully agree! The ARCA website has good information about deductable amounts per month and income tax percentages, but I do have some practical questions left. E.g.: reporting as a pareja, other (general) deductions, the exchange rates to use. I will need an expert to help me at least the first time.

Statement of Tax Liability in Argentina needed

Thanks for your reply. I have read multiple times that Argentina doesn't tax foreign pensions, but that's simply not true. Argentina taxes its tax residents on worldwide income, that is: including pensions. Important is that the general rule is that pensions are taxed. So there's no tax evasion...

Shipping company requires certificate of residence

Sounds to me that you indeed have two options: the consular route and the one in which you arrange everything in Argentina. I do understand that in general they want to verify in some way (official documentation) that you are entitled for the one time tax exempt shipping to Argentina. Not...

How many of us are still here?

I agree. I think generally speaking life has become more unpredictable anywhere. I do think though that it would and will be difficult to emigrate to Argentina for people who like to minimize risk. I am happy to see loads of people of my age group are thinking 'what the heck, this is more...

Are we going to have that discussion again, because of your anecdotal proof? *Sigh*

A bit lost: Applying for a Family reunification visa, Radex application next?

Hi @rdino - I haven't really started the process yet, since I haven't sold my property yet in Holland. The only thing I have arranged in the meantime, and that was very simple, is to get a tax ID. I did that when I was in BA last month. I can't tell ofc if we are in the same situation. My...

    Immigration changes: Health, Education, Deportation

For other visas than the one based on marriage with an Argentine citizen, the 'ingreso regular' is already in place. My (Argentine) partner views the new measures to be aimed at serving the right wing voters, who are primarily negative about the influx of immigrants from countries as Bolivia and...

    Reverse mortgage, or likewise alternatives

It's a very tricky income solution, I know. But there's always the freedom to judge the offer and say no. Personally, I would be happy to at least have the chance to view any possibilities. I've worked in personal finance myself so I am pretty sure what to look for.

    Reverse mortgage, or likewise alternatives

Thanks Nikad. Always amazed by your knowledge. Didn't know they use the term 'hipoteca inversa', so that's already good to know. Effectively using the value of a home to generate extra income without having to sell is still a major problem, even in the 'first' world. Existing solutions are...

    Reverse mortgage, or likewise alternatives

Probably not realistic, but gonna pop the question anyway: My estimate is that at least 90+ % of the real estate (casas, PH, apartments) in Buenos Aires is fully mortgage free. Is there any sign of the development of financial instruments to borrow against the value of the (existing) house, e.g...

    Banking in Argentina

Does that mean that if I need to pay for buying real estate and the current owner wants it on his Argentine USD account, I could: 1. Transfer money internationally from a bank account in the EU to an Argentine USD account that has the same name (euros will arrive as dollars)? 2. Then transfer...

    Banking in Argentina

About getting money into Argentina: I have lost track of the current situation (now that the Cepo has ended) regarding transferring a big amount of money (that should arrive as dollars) to Argentina to pay for real estate. Before, as far as I new, this required a unique, complex and costly...

How many of us are still here?

Your reasoning sounds too simple in my opinion, there's a lot more to it. It seems to me that your starting point is that you aim to settle in BA. And that you are deliberating your financial ability to do so, comparing this scenario with the alternative of staying in the US. Is that right...

    CEPO is lifted

I am thinking things might work out differently. As I understood the IMF has demanded a positive interest rate. This would mean a much better deposit return on pesos than on dollars. Given the relative security of the peso in the coming months (the central bank has enough ammunition to defend...
