Argentina’s restaurants shine brightly (Micheline guide)

Have to say, the general quality of restaurants has improved a lot in Argentina (and maybe in Buenos Aires in particular). That’s very good. Don’t get the comments about cost of these restaurants. If someone doesn’t like them just skip them. It’s not like you can‘t fidn cheaper restaurants...

    Medical expenses in Buenos Aires

I’ll add something. I was in Buenos Aires in October and had a crown replaced. This was a crown that was originally done in Argentina many years ago. Cost of about US$400 (peso equivalent), something that would cost me several thousand in the US. I had several dental procedures, both in...

    Restaurants in Palermo

I live in NJ today. Not in Newark though. But Newark is clearly getting nicer and likely will only improve over time. People want to live in or near NYC and need places close to public transportation. That’s how Hoboken gentrified. Used to live in Brooklyn and the same process happened there...

Is the expat party coming to an end?

The dollar won’t remain at the same price for 6 months. This is only a temporary respite.

400 sqm apartments are a lot more than $1500 from what I’ve seen.

Do you have any sense of the rent-price relationship. For example, how much do you think the apartment you are re ring for $550 would sell for? Trying to decide if buying is a good investment

New official exchange rate: 800 pesos per dollar

not sure I understand your question. You are wondering why prices rise in Argentina after a devaluation? Or something else?

I’d love to hear more details on the apartment from @Spen but bear in mind that 1500 dollars for rent is on the higher end of rentals in buenos aires. Sure, there are more expansive places but the average middle class porteño isn’t renting for these amounts.

BA is incredibly cheap for tourists right now - but will it last?

I haven’t lived in BA for decades now (I live in the US) but go there regularly, 3-4x a year. Argentina has gone through all kinds of cycles in terms of being cheap or expensive. When it does get expensive, like really expensive in dollars, that’s usually a sign that a large devaluation is...

    What will get cut?

The easiest expenses to reduce are subsidies (specially energy subsidies) and maybe getting rid of some of the state owned enterprises. Aerolíneas would be a good start. Social security payments will also likely be affected.

1500 US dollars a month? Can I ask about some details? Like, what’s the size, number of bedrooms, bathrooms? Location? I’m thinking of renting soon and want to have an idea of what the market is like. also, for you or anyone else here, has anyone had any luck paying abroad for rentals? meaning...

    Western Union money transfer

Quick question. I know of WU and have used it myself, both to send money to family in Argentina as well as for my own benefit when I was visiting. But I’ve always sent it to be picked up in person. Has anyone used WU to wire directly to a local bank account? I am not looking to get dollars, the...

Looking for a 1 bedroom apt

If you only need an apartment for a few weeks I suspect Airbnb will be the best option. I’ve used them many times in BA. I‘ve also used local versions of Airbnb like https://www.4rentargentina.com/.

Is the expat party coming to an end?

our plan is to spend a few months in BA next year to decide how much we like it. As part of that I was planning on going to a place like the Hospital Italiano for a general checkup and pay it private. Does that make sense? What’s the cost of good health insurance in BA?
