    Best cigar shops in CABA?

Hello, I’m going to be looking later this week for some Cuban cigars here in Buenos Aires and wondered if anybody has any good recommendations for places to buy cigars. Looking to buy a box of, hopefully, Cohiba cigars. Had some with a friend at a wedding a couple months back in Europe but...

If the economy gets real bad will people turn on expats ?

Likewise. 3 months earlier this year and for the last month. Not once have had I had any negativity for being English or not a local. Though I feel San Telmo is a bit more rough around the edges than it was at the beginning of the year

Is the expat party coming to an end?

I think a lot of long term tourists/nomads would plant roots here if it was possible to continue earning their salaries from abroad. I know I’d live here if I could continue to work for my company and I am considering becoming a contractor to facilitate it. I would much rather live here than...

    Lord, what a storm!

I booked a last minute apartment in San Telmo. Thankfully I’m only here a month as it’s dire

    Lord, what a storm!

In an apartment without air conditioning or a fan it was such a welcome change to work all day today with the windows open. It’s made me a bit homesick, I’ve loved the rain today and the dramatics of the thunderstorm

What’s the purpose of the SEC if they’re so toothless for such cases? Genuine question

They ought to learn a “transparency” trick from the UK and get their backhands as corporate after dinner speeches instead

Is the expat party coming to an end?

It’s an interesting thought. I currently work PAYE but have total flexibility with regards to where I work from. I’ve been mulling moving to Argentina and moving to becoming a contractor for my company since I’m kinda fed up with England and the quality of life I can afford here is above and...

Selecting an eSim for data only

Sadly not this stint but I’m hoping to remember to bring back my Argentinian sim this time! Thanks for the heads up. I’ll probably recharge before the 30 days as I can easily burn through 25gb

Selecting an eSim for data only

I used airalo for a sim for the last week. I got around 2GB for $13 I think. Wasn’t a great deal but it allowed me to have data as soon as I got off my ferry from Colonia. Never had any issues with coverage throughout CABA. I then bought a tourist SIM card earlier this week from Claro. Was about...

Is the expat party coming to an end?

Great take though the only thing is the debt is a “kind” debt as it’s more of a tax rather than a debt, especially since it’s collected via PAYE (assuming you’re a PAYE employee which is most cases)

Jimmy Carter is quite an outlier for many things, but fair point. I agree with you but I just don’t see it happening in reality

Is the expat party coming to an end?

This doesn’t seem unique to Argentina though. Free universal health and education can and probably has to exist alongside private and that seems preferable than having only private. I think you’d struggle to find a country where the children of the ruling class aren’t predominantly at a private...

Is the expat party coming to an end?

Also, the point of a huge discount, it’s arguable but the interest accruing from day 1 of enrolment is a big frustration compared to those who pay outright. Again, I understand your point about balancing the taxpayer backed loan with inflation. I had over 4 years of loan interest accrual before...

Is the expat party coming to an end?

It perhaps may have changed in recent years, I paid mine off in 2020 I believe but the rate then was RPI + up to 3% salary dependent. I’d agree that it would be fair if it were flat RPI and if that’s the case these days then I agree that that’s fair. In fact, based on your numbers it certainly...
