    Sushi Inflation in Buenos Aires

Yes, they WAY over due it on the cream cheese, and the fish is primarily salmon, I love salmon but you don't want a whole plate of just salmon, it's hard to find a nice variety of other fish. I ordered from Furusato for over 15 years but they appear to be out of business now. Now I order...

    Megatlon - Updated Prices?

Megatlon is expensive, I've been a member since 2000. I go for the cheapest "regular" Megatlon plan (which includes the older gyms), if you pay for a year or 2 years in advance, you get a better deal. I continue to go there because I have a lot of friends there, so it's a social thing too...

Who plans to live in Buenos Aires permanently and why?

Thanks Ceviche, we're here by choice and we love our adopted country! After 18 years I still look up at the amazing architecture as I walk down the streets and think, "I live in a really cool place!" I can walk to the Colón opera house and have a choripan on the way home! The jacaranda trees...

    Sushi Inflation in Buenos Aires

Sushi is always expensive, no matter where you are, because the fish must be top quality and fresh. The issue is Porteños are not big fish eaters so the turnover is low, which makes the situation worse.

    Sushi Inflation in Buenos Aires

www.Maki-sushi.com.ar Maki Sushi is pretty good quality, nice size nigiri pieces, the problem in Buenos Aires is the lack of variety of fish / shellfish. Most sushi in Buenos Aires is heavily based on salmon, I love salmon but you don't want a whole sushi dinner of just salmon. Furusato was...

Who plans to live in Buenos Aires permanently and why?

We moved here in Oct 2000 when the ARG peso was pegged 1 to 1 with the USA dollar. At that time it was more expensive to live here then it was to live in California. The goal was to live in and experience a Latin culture (I have a B.S. in International Business specializing in Latin America)...

    Sushi Inflation in Buenos Aires

The I read somewhere about the “The Big Mac” Index which was introduced in 1986 by The Economist magazine which uses the price of a McDonald’s Big Mac as a way to measure the purchasing power parity between countries. This is “Pete and Ron’s Buenos Aires Sushi Inflation Index” We used to order...

    Graham crackers

The Quaker Honey (Miel) crackers are an excellent substitution for graham cracker crusts! Ron's marbled pumpkin cheesecake was a big hit at the dinner table last night. Tastes even better the next day with your morning coffee! Thanks for everyone's help. Pete & Ron

    Graham crackers

Thanks for the ideas, we tried the Lincoln crackers but IMHO they are NOT a good substitution to make graham cracker crusts, the make your own recipe sounds like a good idea. Someone else recommend the Quaker Miel (honey) crackers, we're going to try those next. Thanks again! Pete & Ron

New Express checkout passport kiosks at EZE

We just came through EZE this morning and there were some new automated passport control checkin kiosks. We’ve had Global Entry in the USA for about 5 years and LOVE IT. Is this something similar for Argentina? Anyone have any info on it and how to apply for it? Can non-Argentina citizens...

Question on cell phone plans that work between USA and Argentina

Welcome to the 21st century! Ron bought his first smart phone. We’re looking for the best way to use it here and in the USA. We talked to a Verizon guy in the USA and it seems like we would need to get a new SIMM card every time we returned to the USA, activating it with a new number (since...

2 peso notes are being made illegal?

I was gone on vacation for 2 weeks and when I got back I heard the 2 peso bill will no longer be accepted after a certain time. What is this about? How long do I have to use my 2 peso notes before they expire? What is the rational for saying a 2 peso bill is no longer legal tender? Why not...
