Exchanging Pesos Ars To Pesos Clp

Has anyone visited Chile recently and exchanged Argentine Pesos to Chilean Pesos? What was the exchange rate they gave you? We were in Uruguay over New Years and they paid 2 Pesos Uruguayos to 1 Pesos Argentine, where the "official" rate is 4 to 1. I know the "official" exchange rate for...

    Your Best/worst Customer Service Anecdote

Egad, what a question. It's hard to pick just one story/issue, I'm going to say Taxi Drivers: First, they act like they are doing you a favor by charging you to take you some where. They barely speak to you. They have two driving methods "gas to the floor" or "brake hard". A few weeks ago I...

Rare imported delicacies found at Carrefour in Corrientes

I found 3 random cans of generic labelled root beer in the Jumbo in Palermo about 4 years ago. They weren't in the scanner and I stood there holding my ground until they came up with a price. haha. Now I've learned to bring the ingredients with me and make my own. The argentines who tried it...

    Heartworm Meds - Dogs

From a bit of research on the net, I believe it's called Cardomec Plus here, I've seen a few listings and the packaging looks exactly the same as Heartguard. People here don't seem concerned about heartworms in their pets.

    Heartworm Meds - Dogs

Does anyone know if Heartguard or any other medication for prevention of Heartworms is available here in Argentina? My vet originally said she doesn't need it because she's inside most of the time, but now I'm moving to Entre Rios where I know mosquitos are bad and I want her back on the...

    Common courtesy in Buenos Aires

My 72-yr-old neighbor downstairs visited the USA for the first time last month, upon her return we talked at length about how difficult the people are here in Argentina, as now she has somewhat of a reference of what I've had to adjust to. She was absolutely floored when walking down the street...

SELL ME on BA .... please :)

If you've ever been to the US, then you know what real cultural diversity is. It simply doesn't exist here. Yes, the asian population has increased in the last 5 years, but I see almost no diversity of culture but the Jewish population. Variety in restaurants bars and coffee shops? Quantity...

    Bad experience with Amazon

Sounds like something that's the norm rather than a problem. The mail here doesn't work. Nice that Amazon is giving a refund and reshipping. I'd say it's actually a pretty good outcome.

SELL ME on BA .... please :)

    1) Peso expected to go 4:1 against the dollar, but 4 pesos here won't buy you what 1 dollar will in the US, most everything is expensive here. 2)Most popular with expats seems to be Recoleta and Palermo, they are typical overpriced residential areas. But no matter what part of the city you are...

    American candy and sweets

Yes, it's the Brazil stuff that does not taste anything like the chocolate from the US. Packaged in English, but it's the same stuff they sell in Duty Free on Buquebus. Sorry, they use inferior chocolate and many brands don't use real cocoa butter in the chocolate. I'll wait for my next trip...

    American candy and sweets

Hmmmm. I'm skeptical because even the US candy I've found here is made with inferior chocolate. Snickers and the like. In the US the FDA actually regulates what can be called chocolate. Not so here. Any vegetable oil with dark syrup color that tastes like plastic can be called chocolate.

    Pet transportation questions...

I've asked a couple of vets about the chips here and they just laugh. If you lose your pet in Buenos Aires, no one is going to be scanning for a microchip.

What do we pay for rent?

I hear some outrageous prices for rents, I thought we could do a poll. In what range is your monthly rent, not including expenses.

    Canadian nurse wanting to work...

I don't know how it is in Canada but in the US nurses make good money, here you can expect barely enough to live on. If you speak Spanish well, and can find an employer who will give you a contract you could get the work visa. I don't know about working in the black at a hospital.

    Tax Free Shopping

Be very careful about the process of collecting your money. If you go thru security without having gone to the first booth outside security, you're out of luck. I think that's why they have the 2 booth procedure, many people proceed thru security without visiting the first booth (I did the 1st...
