Argentina’s Javier Milei has made a horrible mistake

"He is now trapped. Either he […] or he lets the peso find its level and unleashes a fresh inflation” What’s stopping him leaving things exactly as they are? In spite of the insane prices most Argentinians aren’t complaining (beats me why) about the situation, so he has no reason to do much of...

Colonia runs as of May 2024

Don’t do it. Migraciones doesn’t like the shtick. Better to just pay the overstay fine when you leave.

How's everyone hanging in there with the cost of living these days?

I’ve been thinking that since Milei devalued the peso and health premiums went through the roof. “There’s no way this can last!” Here we are, all these months later and nothing is giving at all …. Just looked up the date, it was December 13. Soon it’ll be almost a year.

How's everyone hanging in there with the cost of living these days?

I'm as far from a commie as it gets, I'm a full red blooded American capitalist. I'm just commenting on the "prices being corrected" - it isn't a correction, it's profit for company owners, that is all I'm saying. We both know that people on the street are not getting significant salary raises...

How's everyone hanging in there with the cost of living these days?

Things may have been artificially cheap but prices aren't just "correcting", companies are trying to grab cash while they can in this crazy time. For example - how on earth is yoghurt made locally more expensive than yoghurt in the USA where salaries of the people making the yoghurt are 20x...

How's everyone hanging in there with the cost of living these days?

I’ve been here two years too. Costs are definitely starting to hurt. I never thought the cost increases in dollars would last this long, so what do I know 🤷🏻‍♂️ I still really enjoy living here but the prices are starting to impact that.

    Converging Dollars

I'm really surprised but Milei may actually pull this off. With the Blue dipping below 1200 for the first time in six months and the official now at 1000, there's less than a 20% gap left - and narrowing. They may converge after all! (I'm scared to discover what that would mean though, prices...

DNI - which country for background check?

Thanks everyone for your help. Sounds like I need both. I may try first with just an Australian background check because it's so fast and easy to get; and if they force me to get a US one then I'll do it. Thanks!

Alert - Cheap AA miles business class seats to JFK

Alert for anyone with some AA miles looking to visit family in the USA: There were two dates with business class seats on AA direct to JFK for just 50K miles, which is absolutely insane. It's usually 150-250K miles. October 29 and November 6. I took the November 6 seat, October 29 is there until...
